I'm glad that he has been caught. What he did was so wrong on many levels! Thanks to Judge Elwell, he will not be likely to slither away again.

I'm so glad that this creep was found. Wasn't there a girl friend or something from what I read when it first happened? Snake, dog, cat, bird,... you don't leave any creature to fend for itself without food or water, and then to be poisonous. Didn't this guy think that someone would eventually show up and could get bit? Or did he want the snakes to just suffer and die before found. Yes...he and Derbe belong in the same cell...with a bunch of poisonous snakes!

Actually, the article that was in the paper back in October was false. It was lies. The animals were never abandoned, but were removed from the store within 3 days of the last time someone was in there removing animals for the owner while he was incarcerated. The animals and supplies along with almost everything else in the store including personal items were taken on April 19th, not July 22. Nothing was abandoned or not cared for.

The animals in that store were very well cared for and maintained. This man has been breeding, raising, caring for reptiles his whole life. It is his passion and has been his lifelong career. People should also take any kind of articles like this with a grain of salt and maybe do a little research for themselves before jumping on the bandwagon. You don't have to like reptiles, no one is asking everyone to, but at least have respect for what a person does if they do it well and are responsible in what they are doing. Steve Markevich is more passionate about what he does than anyone I know in anything they do. He has been sick over losing his animals and then being blamed for it on top of that! This has been a horrible ordeal for him and all he has lost because of these falsifications and corruption.

Did you notice your house is rodent free? That's because snakes in your neighborhood keep the rodent population in check.

Are there any laws regulating keeping poisonous snakes in PA? Did he have whatever permits that may be required? Are people that are legally able to have such snakes required to have access to anti-venom? Not trying to be a smarty, just wondering. I don't remember from the original article the different species that were there.
