I'm just wondering if there is anyone out here that remembers a camp in Pelham, New Hampshire called Saint Mary of the Pines ?

I went every summer for 2 weeks and from the time I was a Midget to a Giant. Loved it and the nuns and now I am Catholic. Often wonder if it was the influence on me. Fond memories during a very difficult childhood.

I attended St. Mary's for 4 weeks and Camp Alexander for 4 weeks. Those 8 weeks at camp were the best summers I have ever spent. The Brother's were great but stern. I wish I had a time machine to go back to those days. Deac

I hated it. It felt more like a missionary. Church 3 times a day is too much when there is no god.

I went to St. Mary of The Pines for a week, the summers of 1948 and 1949, out of the Immaculate Conception parish. Catholic Charities paid for it. It's where I first learned to box. My mother was widowed, with 4 young children, and I think not having me at home for a week gave her somewhat of a break. God knows, she needed it.

I worked there for two summers primarily in the kitchen assisting Cooks Charlie and Enda. Lived with two old men in a small camp building there. There names were Felix and John. My family knew Msgr. Jakul very well and personally. He had a home in N. Falmouth and we visited him there often.

Just drove by where camp used to be and was curious as to its existence, Went there late 40's for a few years. Came from large single mom family in Lowell so was a real treat to get to go swimming and actually do stuff with other kids.

Went every summer when I was 8 to 12 or so. Remember it well. Still think I can make a necklace out of "gimp"! Went with 2 of my brothers in the late 50's, early 60's. Had fun, learned to swim, and "not wet the bed"!!!! Used to live in Lowell. I can be reached at loopcross06@yahoo.com!!!!!
