Police call rate of teen prostitution 'appalling'

Wichita police have run across so many teen and preteen prostitutes that the deputy chief thinks our community should consider a prevention program aimed at middle-school-age girls.

Why don't you have Phil Kline preach some abstinence to the prostitute teenagers and their mothers. Phil speaks directly from god and along with Sam Brownback knows exactly what the all-mighty wants for the rest of us. I'm sure between the two of them they can call in some rightenousness and have a lightening bolt chase those hoe's down the street and out of sight.

I'm 16, and in states custody. I was taken in states custody on Feb.6th for truancy and now I am fighting just to go home. While in states custody i have met so many girls that have ran from home or been taken from their homes, for many different reasons. It is sad to admmit that i have met a few girls that while on the run, prostituted, just to survive. I did run from states custody but i never would think of selling my body, for anything. I returned back to my temporary placement in Wichita,Kansas. I've heard many stories about girls my age prostituting while being in the same position i was, on the run. The girls i have met are no different than me, they just made different decisions. You cant feel bad for them because it was their decision, but you have to think about being in their position, fighting for their life and to live. I can put myself in their position because i am fighting for my life too, fighting to go home, back with my family. I just choose to fight in different ways. We are 14, 15, 16, and even 17 year old girls. We are the future of our world. If this world keeps treating us and punishing us the same way, there will be no future, there will be no world. Thank you
Youre crazy

A prevention program is the dumbest thing I've ever heard. It makes it sound like those girls WANT to prostitute but they're obviously working for money to get away from something else.
Prevention is Key

Educating the girls is about revealing the inner workings of the pimp's approach and the risks of life on the street. Girls who are in need of love and attention are prey for pimps who understand how to manipulate that need by saying the right things. He doesn't always even start with asking her to turn tricks. He might start by buying her some nice things, saying he loves her, taking her out, treating her like a girlfriend. This is not an uncommon approach. Educating girls means 1)teaching them they are worthy 2)telling them where they can go for help 3)showing them the realities of what happens to those who take their chances on the streets and finally and most importantly 4)creating trust with the girls and a network of support so that when their home life fails them, their community won't.

Woulda, Coulda, Shoulda helps. Thanks for your contribution to this effort. What the f'k ever!

Maybe mom shouldn't have gotten knocked up by a guy that raped her. How does that change what is happening in America's streets?

If you are being honest about your child did the thought ever dawn on you that the person that commited the crime my of had parents that did not give a s**t about him or what he did.No parent to teach right from wrong, good from bad.Our children are a direct result of our child rearing(raising) if you look at the child you can see the parent.People tell me all the time that they can see me in my kids.
teach your children to be citizens not burdens.

Good Advise. And no I wasn't being honest, I was reacting to your callousness of the topic.

I don't have a daughter, however I am very well familiar with the problems of foster children being prostituted, sometimes by their own care takers.

Children can wind up in the system for reasons other than bad parenting. Even if every child in the system was a product of bad parenting, this issue needs addressed. Your arrogant, I have all the answers certainly isn't providing any solutions.

It is easy to criticize and condemn others when you are the ideal, perfect parent. Not every child is lucky enough to be your kid. That doesn't mean they should be treated as throw away trash for other's amusement.

There is a story out of Michigan of a young girl who was in foster care and being prostituted out as early as the age of 8.

In 2003, she was found in an abandoned crack house with her throat slit, where her and her unborn fetus was rotting for 2 weeks.

At trial it was revealed that there were a whole string of foster children who were running from there foster homes, and getting introduced to the drug and sex trade.

You may want to go home badly, and if your family reads here, they will want to know that your safe. If you are not being abused in your home, stop running. You will be of age soon and able to go back home.

If you are being abused, please try to arrange a meeting with your guardian ad litem and a police officer to make a report. Do not make false accusations because you want to go home, however.

If your safety is an issue, follow the proper channels. STAY OFF THE STREETS!! It's no good our there. Don't end up like the girl in Michigan.

Ok. The deer is done. It is a neck roast, complete with vertbrae intact. It has been cooking over night in the crock pot and it's falling of the bone. No gamey taste to it whatsoever.

Grandpa used to hunt with Fred Bear, while grandma had wild game recipes published in outdoor magazines.

Tradition, pass it on. And bring the rolls. I burnt mine....AGAIN!
