It's still there. Buildings haven't changed one bit.

My grandfather was one of the founders of the club. My family spent many summers there during the 30s and 40s. George's grandchildren Mac and Susan still spend their summers there. I fondly remember many of the people at the club both members such as Shapless, Sherwood, Croll and John Clum the caretaker who I followed around many summers.I stopped there briefly a year or two ago and found things quite unchanged.

I would like to learn more about this this club. I am an avid measly spin-caster and live in Newark Valley and find it quite shameful that I have never fished the Beaverkill. Let me know of any pointers and/or fishing stories as I plan to hit hit the no-kill zones some time this winter/spring.

George Mercer...In 1965 Jay Mercer ,myself and several other guys after graduation from Phila. Textile College, spent several days fly fishing the beaverkill. We stayed at the cabin next to the B.T.C. cabin.
I've been an avid tyer and fly-fisher all my life but I still remember those fantastic days on the beaverkill.

The club is alive and well, I live 3 miles from it. my grandfather was Bill Jensen, my uncle Tanner Bailey, both long time members. My mom dad brother and I spent every summer vacation at our cabin and visited at the club all the time..my brother and I would raid the big frig and scoop out ice cream from the freezer when the adult were all partying in the old farmhouse next to the club house,, I'm the only one who loved it enough in lew beach to want to spend my life there year around....

George- Burr Sherwood was one of my mentors in learning fly fishing as a young boy- My grandfather (LC Quackenbush) was one of his buddies and founders of the club- Quack passed away before I was old enough to learn from him. I was fortunate enough to spend the better part of a summer in the 1960's in Beaverkill recouperating from mononucleosis, and Burr (along with whoever dropped in) took me under their wing(s) to teach me the challenges... Burr was a complete gentleman as were all of the senior members. I remember very well George Katterman, Jack Stafford and have forgotten (I'm sure) many.
Fond, fond memories!

I have a 8 X 10 black and white photo taken in 1910 of George Mercer and John Contant taken on July 4th, they are sitting in those old wicker chairs on the lawn in front of the club...

Sandy - Are you of the same Quackenbush family as Judy and Sandy (Shepler)?
I'm sure if anyone knows about the Beaverkill, it would be my dad... he was born and raised in Oxford, and is currently living in Afton...

Daily Horoscope for December 19

Virgo

Someone is easily angered today, and you'll want to tiptoe around them at every opportunity. They might be on the defensive and imagine that you're getting at them all the time, or they could be quick to point the finger of blame straight at you. It won't be an easy day, but try not to get swept up in the emotional dramas that are swirling around you. They'll only exhaust you.
