Anderson is wanting to put dress codes in public schools. They think kids will do better if they are all dressed alike.
I disagree. I have two sons ages 9 and 12 and I basically let them wear what they want as long as it doesn't have cuss words etc..
I think Anderson should just leave it alone.

I have two children in elementry grades and they get good grades. I really don't think that wearing uniforms will help them learn more. We have a dress code and it is not being enforced. Begin to correct this problem by enforcing the dress code and lets go from there. Parents need to be parents and know what their children are doing, who they are with, and where they are at.Parents do thier part, than teachers and do their part (teach) not discipline.

I had another thought, let the communication flow between the teacher and parent---communicate with your children, too. Support your teachers and they will support you at the same time. Be informed about how your children are doing--listen to one another and we can be better teachers, parents, and people.

Making a public school into a communist institution doesn't help kids a bit. You're preparing them for blue-collar jobs (the ones who all have to dress alike).
It costs close to double to parents - 2 sets of clothes a day for each child! White shirts don't stay white, so you must wash clothes more frequently, and they must be replaced more frequently as well.
What distractions does a girl wearing a plain pink t-shirt and jeans cause? Much less distraction than her teacher, who wears high heels, a mini-skirt, and a sleeveless blouse with her boobs hanging out (not to mention all that horrible jewelry, makeup, and strong perfume).
Gang colors? So, the gangs own all the colors under the rainbow, huh? Nice that you respect the gang's individuality, but not the student's. Now, with the security of dress codes, when kids get into a fight at school, you can definitely tell who was involved - children with white shirts and navy blue pants! That should help narrow down the culprits!
So, I now derided the 3 main reasons that are touted pro-dress-code in Chicago.
Why not make it a truly free public education: Schools should issue a scrub (like the ones doctors and nurses wear) with school colors, 1 to each student, to wear upon entering school and removed before leaving.
That way, they also get the feel of what it would be like to dress for a profession - you still have your imaginary security, it costs the parents nothing, and you have "uniformity" in the schools. Oh, and make sure all staff must abide by the same code!

The thing is..you aren't running anything.

Looks like this message board is full of kids not dry behind the ears yet.

I went to have lunch with my sons at Robinson last week. I gotta tell ya, I had spoke to a few people and there had been comments to the effect that they were also going to change how teachers dressed....
Either that hasn't happened or half the teachers work as part time streetwalkers. I saw two TEACHERS with boobs about popping out of their shirts.(although Ill admit since one was about 400 lbs, Ill doubt she'll be turning any of the little boys heads) Maybe we should work on the staff before changing how the kids dress!

I just moved from a state that has uniforms, and my kids hate it. When I was in school we didn't have uniforms, I think the parents should be able to make sure their child wears the right thing. And if not it's the parent's that don't make their child wear the right clothes that cause the problems, with the idea of uniforms. Besides what is the whole point of uniforms anyway? If it is so each child does not feel pointed out, well wrong answer it still happens with uniforms. There still the difference between brands of uniform style clothes, and the ones with the most money gets the best. The ones who don't have alot of money get the cheaper one and still get pointed out. So why have uniforms for that reason. If is for saftey were all children of the school can be single out, well thats not working because kids find a way to bring knives, guns, whatever and the clothes are not stopping it. And anyone can find the uniform colors to get in the school and pretend to be a child there if thats the issue. So what is the reason for uniforms again? Please tell me.

LOL. I'm just sorry that the kids thought it was OUR idea! I at no point wanted to dress my kids up like little geek boys or spend money on these awful clothes when they have perfectly good ones at home.

Im doing debates at school and I happen to get pro on dress codes, which is fine with me because I think dress codes wouldn't be so bad because if we wore a standard type of clothing, mostly uniforms, it would, I think create less distraction and be able to focus on schoolwork. Plus trying to find something to where in the morning gets pretty annoying.Just think,if we didnt have a dress code and some decides not to wear clothes or exetremely revealing clothes, would you want to allow that? I say school isnt a fashion show, because your there for education not what to wear.^_^ Thats my opinion.
