Tanana Raft Classic participants to mark 40th anniversary of ragtag flotilla

In 1967, Neal Brown and George Cresswell built a raft and traveled from Fairbanks to Nenana, a journey that provided the inspiration for the rite of passage known as The Great Tanana Raft Classic.

The Commemoration event will be held on August 9 & 10, 2008 in fairbanks. On August 9 from 1:00 PM to 5:00 PM we will interview and video participants, onlookers and interested persons at the fairbanks North Star Borough Assembly Room. The recorded interviews will be held by the University of Alaska's Rasmuson Library Oral History project.

On August 10, 2008 at 6:00 PM interested people may participate in a cruise on the Riverboat Discovery II during which there will be snacks, movies, photos, documents,a nd stories of the four years of races on the Tanana River.
