i am interested in what others think about the common attitudes in this town , and maybe some input on how these attitudes came into being. what it would take to improve the attitudes of the people who live here ?

I agree with jmac, I am planning on moving to Streator this year and spent several days in the town looking for homes in the area. Everyone was so wonderfully nice and helpful. I did read on other blogs that people there were not very friendly but I found nothing of the sort! And I come from the south where people who don't even know you wave as you drive by. I loved the town!

I loved the town! I was born in Streator, moved to Kankakee when I was 5, then moved to Texas when I was 23. Lived there for 31 years, and now just moved to Arkansas. During my life I always went back to Streator off and on to visit my grandmother. I have always loved Streator. I really don't know anyone there now, as my grandmother has passed away and so many other people I knew. I haven't been there since 1999. I have many many happy childhood memories of Streator.

We were just passing through and stopped at the river. We met wonderful people who were all volunteers participating in a beautification project! That says alot about the community. It certainly made a positive impression on us! We thoroughly enjoyed talking with them and hope to come back soon. We loved Streator!

I grew up in Streator and think it was a wonderful place to live. However, the town has changed for so many reasons. I would love to see it regain the sense of pride I remember in the 1950's. Times are difficult now yet I believe in the place. I received a very good public education in Streator. The people are good, stong and kind.

I think it all about who you are surrounded by in Streator.People look at Streator differently depending on age and race. There are two different sides. People who makes good money here and those who struggle. To me Streator does not have many opportunities for a person to be successful. Many new businesses that come to this town ended up closing in a couple of years. Many people have to drive a long distance for their job because Streator does not have a lot of employment opportunities which is horrible because of gas prices. A young person out of college does not have to many choices here. Might the elderly might find this to be a great place. I personal want to move because there is not booming like it use to when I was younger. God Bless you all.

To the man from TX. I too am from the south and I will tell you that since I moved here 11 years ago these people up here are the rudest and most disrespectful bunch I have ever come across. Unless you have money and LOVE to DRINK and PARTY then you don't fit in. The teachers ecspecially in Northlawn are VERY DISRESPECTFUL to the students and I am a teacher here so I know for a fact. Just because they waved to you doesn't mean anything. We are moving back to North Carolina this summer. I wish you the best and I hope that you fit their needs.

I went to Streator once, and everywhere I stopped I had people soliciting me to buy drugs, and to have sex. Then I ate at a restuarant and the workers were completely rude, and the food sucked. I went into the restroom and got rapped by 3 highschool kids. They physically assualted me and left me a criple, I can never have a baby now. Thats what I think of Streator. Oh ya, they gave me a serious STD.

I moved to Streator, and almost immediately my house was vandalized. I had many expensive tools stolen from my garage. When ever I tried to do repairs or fix up my house, someone would do worse damage to my house. I am now moving from Streator, but I can't sell my house due to all the vandalism to my property. The out of control kids have ran me out of town!!!!!

I used to drive down to Streator to buy crack, but with rising gas prices, even the oral sex with my toothless dealer isn't worth it anymore.
