No one has ever accused Kansas Department of Revenue employees of being geniuses. They have created distress situation and will now "fire sale" Madelynn's inventory for pennies on the dollar. They could have worked with Madelynn and sold the inventory in an orderly manner, in turn securing a higher price. Additionally, it may have been possible to turn some of the inventory back to the vendors for a refund. This is another nail in the coffin for downtown Emporia. Madelynn drew business to town from a hundred-mile radius. She restored the old Newman building to its original splendor and vastly improved the looks of downtown. Now there will nearly half-block-long boarded-up building on Commercial. As if it isn't stressful enough to plan a wedding, a lot of anxiety has been created for brides planning their special occasions -- good wishes go out them.

Madelynn's owner, Madelynn Jean Woods, has been delinquet on her tax liabilities since 2005. It is about time the state took some action to collect the money that is all ready been paid by the costumers and is owed to the citizens of Kansas. She should be ashamed of herself for trying to defraud her fellow citizens.

The question is whether or not the best method of securing the highest price for Madelynn's personal property is being implemented. A distress "fire sale" is the worst method. An orderly liquidation would be better and may help Madelynn to stay in business. "Defraud" is a strong word. Do you have evidence of intent of fraud? The state seemed to know how much Madelynn owed from the payroll and sales tax returns she submitted. It does not appear that anyone was trying to hide anything. According to your spelling and grammar, you are the one who should be ashamed.

Although Madelynn's provided great products and services to it's customers, the negative press coverage has damaged the store's reputation and will make it more difficult to recover.

I understand that the auction set for October 3 and 4 at Madelynn's has been cancelled. Any update on the re-scheduling?

Apparently KDOR has agreed with Spartan (see post #1 above) and will conduct a liquidation sale rather than an auction "fire sale." This liquidation sale will replace the two-day auction that was scheduled for the weekend of October 3 & 4. According to KSNT-TV, a liquidation sale is to begin within the week. The Emporia Gazette reported yesterday that "the liquidation sale will go on for a considerable period of time."
