Why did they need to fly him out instead of using the ambulance? He was treated and released, so was the helicopter necessary? Or did somebody say what the heck, he's got insurance, send the helicopter out to earn some extra money?

Can you read? The article says ..."slid off a trail, and rolled down an embankment." Have you ever seen an ambulance offroading down embankments? I sure haven't!

Can YOU read? He was taken up the embankment to a waiting ambulance. Then flown to the hospital where he was treated & released. My point is that why was the expensive helicopter justified for somebody that can be treated and released?!? FYI, those helicopter rides cost $14,000 or so. I have no problem with that as long as it's NEEDED. Otherwise, using a helicopter when it isn't needed is IMO robbery.

No apparently I can't read, my mistake. I know how much one of those helicopters cost, my friend took an interesting ride in them one time...anyway point is, who cares, its not my expense to pay that bill. Obviously they felt the need to have him flown out so would you rahter be in debt or possibly dead?

I care. I was flown before so I could sit in the emergency room for 3 hours to wait for my surgery. I didn't have to pay - my insurance company did. Who does that hurt? Anybody trying to afford health insurance as well as those paying for the insurance they have now.
