A barrel of crude oil can be "cracked," or broken down into a number of different products, from home heating oil to gasoline to kerosene. Oil refiners can only process a fixed number of these products at one time, however, so they tend to choose the products in highest demand at the time. This generally means gasoline for passenger vehicles takes precedence over diesel fuel for commercial vehicles; and heating oil takes precedence of kerosene... simply because heating oil is more common and, although I'm not positive, I believe it is cheaper to produce... since heating oil seems to be heavier and less refined than kerosene.

Since kerosene is used more often for small lamps and space heating, it isn't produced nearly as much as heating oil which is much more common for home furnaces.

But wait, there's more... the price of kerosene was also jacked up (via state taxes) because people were buying it when it was cheaper than diesel and mixing engine oil and diesel with it and running it in diesel engines.

There should be a hefty tax on anyone who has built a new home in the last 5 years that chose to heat it by burning oil.

It should be called a "stupidity" tax.

I completely agree. Also, this tax should be extended to anyone who builds a new "split level" home and/or decorates it with a "barn star."

I spent the last year looking at real estate... what is wrong with you people and your decorating? The floral print wallpaper has got to go!

Where is THIS news??

"Administrators in the Chambersburg Area School District and the Chambersburg Police are investigating a "sexting" incident involving students at Chambersburg Area Senior High School over a week ago.

Chambersburg Police Chief David Arnold confirmed that the district is working with the borough police, Pennsylvania State Police, Chambersburg and the Franklin County District Attorney's office.

Arnold said he was unable to provide any additional information and said more would be made public Monday."

Put your beer down. You are on the wrong thread. Pay more attention. You probably voted for the wrong candidate too.

I'm with you Mike. It seems like kerosene is always higher than all the other hearing fuels.
