Drug and alcohol problems in Amarillo
“Drugs and alcohol definitely have an impact on crime. I'm just guessing but I'd say about 80% of our problems are related to drugs or alcohol. And the more education and the more we can curb it when they're young, the better off we'll be”
Region One in the state of Texas, which basically covers the tip of the Panhandle down to Lubbock, is the leader when it comes to binge drinking. via KVII-TV Amarillo

LOL That was a good one! I do believe that most everyone who reads your posts, at least the intelligent ones, think you are a fool, or maybe just an idiot. Your racist views and your hatred for animals has been seen in many other threads. |

Ya know, I have to agree with Rick on the whole Mike Shumate thing. I think that a lot of the drug problems revolves around him. I mean he is recognized for some reason, and well from what I know politics and things of that nature, people will do anything to keep their recognition in a community, even if that means going against their duties as public representatives and the so-called protectors. I know that many years ago, something was crooked about the police force in Amarillo but we didn't have near as many problems as we do with our rookies on the force. Go figure!!!!!!!

So what proof is there that Shumate is responsible for the drugs in the schools? You cannot make such accusations without having some proof, without proof it is only gossip and rumor and so very often those two things are dead wrong. |

I agree, but these people obviously don't mind not having proof before they pass JUDGEMENT. |

It always disturbs me how false 'facts' are passed around, and the Internet only makes it worse with the endless array of defamatory emails being circulated, and taken as gospel truth. I am ashamed to admit that I am guilty of the same, or was in times past, I always try to verify everything I hear now. How easy it is to believe the worst of someone, especially if you don't like them for some, real or imagined, reason. And humans just love to pass along all the juicy tidbits they hear. Reminds me of junior high! LOL So much hurt can be caused by such unsubstantiated claims. |

I don't think any of this is going to help our kids who are dealing with something way over their heads. We have to get the drug dealers out of our country. I was a nurse for many years and you just don't know the beautiful souls I have seen addicted to all that junk. Their whole lives are ruined. Some of them get out of it, but not many. Teachers and all adults have a real responsibility here. Thanks

I guess you now have your proof because it looks like Shumate is up for trial soon, right here in Amarillo, TX as a matter of fact.......... check out the local news asap and you will see that me and Rick stand correct. Some people are nieve, some can see the truth.... which are you deceived or not????? |

Not decieved or naive, just reluctant to pass judgement before the facts are known. And an accusation does not equal guilt. |

Shumate is being charged for taking bribes from a food service company. What does that have to do with allowing gasoline truck drivers transporting drugs to school kids? Talk about twisted rational: and that's being generous. Shumate may have taken bribes from other entities, but he’s not on trial for that or anything remotely similar. Back to the actual topic: drugs and alcohol are a problem, I concur. But I don't think Amarillo's any worse than any other town. I would like to see those statistics. How do they base it: Off of rehab attendance? Off of arrests? By counting the number of meth addicts shaking their way down the street spitting out teeth? What?

Shumate will get a slap on the wrist. Just watch. |

We get the message, don't we? |

I would say the main responsibility lies with the parents. I used to be a teacher and it's extremely hard to try to talk to some of those parents when in many cases, they are also on drugs. TAKS is enough to keep the teacher busy: not to mention the discipline problems. With all due respect to the good students.I know people in this area don't want to hear this, but some the best students a teacher can have are the kids from Mexico. Let's put those meth labs people in jail! |
|
|
what? Mexico? Get real! They should not be here in the first place! You must be a MEX yourself!

No, I'm American as apple pie,but our government says that these children come to school and they will. Try changing the law. |
