RELAX!!!! What the french, this was a mistake that cost a girl her life! Mistakes should not happen like that when being a 911 dispatcher. You and GuRu might want to stop posting comments because there are no room for mistakes when your handling life or death situations. If your not understanding what 911 means than your have issues already in life.
Sorry for your luck, but dispatchers are human beings and as such will never be perfect. I wonder why all of you perfect people don't become dispatchers so that we don't have to worry about mistakes any more.

It would seem there should be two job openings down there then. When your job entails serving the public in this manner a second chance will only show the need again for your removal or cost a life

Um, I hit someone before. I wasn't going to get out of my car due to the fact that it could've been a set up. I called 911 and waited for them to arrive. I don't blame the old lady for not stopping, she still would've had to go home and call 911. It's always someones fault though. The dispatchers for making an error, the old lady for not stopping even though she's not a doctor and could not in any way help. What about their mechanic, maybe it's his fault. Definitely not the fault of the victim whom could've possibly put herself into a dangerous situation by not trying to steer clear of traffic.
You hit someone and didn't stop because you were afraid for yourself not the person you hit? You sound pretty self centered to me. I hope someone runs over your toes and just leaves you hopping around by yourself. Maybe then you will think of someone else. Of course you will think of someone else, the other person who you will say was wrong and at fault and that they should be sued.

AMEN!!! 911 is 911 for a reason. Granted I have heard of people calling for some pretty ridiculous reasons but 911 needs to be taken seriously regardless of what is called in and ESPECIALLY if someone even hints at the possibility that someone/something was hurt.

Re Friend's post - so sorry to hear that her children will no longer be able to spend precious time with their mother...our thoughts and prayers are with them. Is there going to be a benefit or anything to try to help the family out?

I was upset when I read about this certain incident. I knew the father/husband of the family about 32 years ago. He used to meet me at a campsite on Coonpath Road and we would invite him to come swimming with me and his other friends he made there. He was a really good friend and I have him and his family in my prayers.
I don't understand why the dispatchers aren't being charged with involuntary manslaughter but maybe time will tell when the whole investigations over.
My prayers are with the family.

Get over yourself, I wouldn't expect someone to stop for me. I would expect them to call for help. I will never stop for anyone...I refuse to put myself into a possibly crazy situation. Secondly, why would I stop on the side of the road and risk getting myself hit? Oh, and I have been hit by a car...and I didn't sue because it was accidental...the person did not intentionally run into me.

You are a terrible citizen. I suggest you leave our country. You do not share the same values and core beliefs on which it was founded. People like you mammy are damaging the sanctity of this great nation. We have no place for you!!!

My favorite was the hysterical lady that called 911 about her rude and argumentative daughter.

The 911 operator listened, then there was a pause and said "Did you want us to come over there and shoot her?"

He quickly followed up and said "just kidding" but by then it was too late and this lady went ballistic.

You are so right. Can't stop today. Without making myself sound too old, there was a time that that would be the first thing you'd do is stop, help, send for help, etc. Not today! Call for help & keep moving. Sad!

A few years ago, I fell & broke my leg in a department store. You wouldn't believe the people (friends of mine as well) telling me I was foolish for not suing the store. It wasn't their fault, they weren't negligent in any way. As in your case, some day we might be on the other end. One thing we have is a clean conscience.

This great nation is being taken over by foriegners. You do have sound advice. I could leave, come back as a non US citizen and live tax free.

Oh and be careful picking up hitchhikers and helping strangers...I'd hate for you to be the next Topix discussion.

Maumi, if you were a REAL citizen, you would realize that you have to help your fellow citizen because we aren't terroists! You should leave the country and come back if they let you in. You would have to come back as an illegal probably because no one would want you back. It's quite obvious you have no heart and are probably a serial killer!

Maumi, it is people like you who don't care about your fellow citizans that really makes me wonder what the world is comming to. We all need to come together and watch out for everyone. There was a girl raped in Califoria and after 20 people walk by, some one finally tells someone else who calls the police. Is this waht we have become? and why?

Excuse me but the last time I checked dispatchers are given extensive training and STUPID mistakes like this one aren't under my interpretation of human error. It wasn't a mistake to not send anyone out to check out the call. It was INVOLUNTARY MANSLAUGHTER.
I'm not perfect..... but I have a conscience.

We are talking about a human being who lost their life because of butt heads like you. Wish I knew who you were. That way if I saw you laying in a ditch somewhere I could just drive on by and say good riddance to inhuman trash like you.

I would call the police. You must have misunderstood me. I wouldn't intervene and place myself into possible danger...I am all my daughter has, and I will make it to her every day.

You're obviously psychotic. I wouldn't want someone like you attempting to save me. You are taking everything I have said and twisting it because I won't jump on the wagon with you, wanting to hag the 911 dispatchers. This occurance was a terrible accident that has hopefully taught many individuals to pay attention to everything that goes on around them. It was an accident.

Funny how your the one OTHER people besides me are trying to wake up ........ yet your calling me psychotic. Your the one that everyone is responding to negatively, not me. I'm not psychotic. I'm a person with a heart that would help my fellow citizen. It's obvious you're the one who doesn't care.
