It will be a disaster, both funcionally, and financially. I work with several people who have lived in Europe, and they can't believe the US is considering this move. It is full of red tape, limiting, and the taxpayers will foot the bill-in increased taxes.

Obviously talking to people that have lived in Europe doesn't give you the facts. Here is the World Health Organization's rankings of health care systems: http://www.photius.com/rankings/healthranks.h...
As you can see, the US ranks 37th in the world, which is a shame for the country that squanders the most money on health care. Almost all European countries rank much higher. Even Saudi Arabia ranks much higher that us.Too bad we can't have a top notch health care system like France.

Take it from someone who has been to other countries and witnessed it first hand. It's a disaster. Why do you think everyone comes here for healthcare?
The deficit inflicted from such a disastrous policy might be the final nails in the coffin for this country.

Tall you what, I'll take the word of the people that had to use it over any "ranking". To a letter, everyone person I've spoken to that has had to deal with the European health care system talked about how bad it was. Too much red tape, limited access, poorer quality and attention. Think what you want, but nobody that has to use the system likes it.

I think that many people here are going to other countries to get treatment and surgeries these days. They can go to India and get a knee replacement surgery for a fraction of the cost there and receive the same if not better care.

I dont know exactly what the great O is proposing but something must be done to change our current system.

This story tells the truth about our current health care system and it is severely messed up.

No thanks, I'll take the scientific studies before taking the opinion of someone anonymously posting on topix. Our healthcare system sucks and it has to be fixed. Nobody comes here for health care unless they are stupid. Why would anyone choose a system that ranks 37th over one that ranks number first or any of the other 36 that are better than ours? They have socialized medicine in many of those countries that rank way ahead of us and it didn't bankrupt them.

They don't want facts Katn. They will still believe we have the best medical system no matter how much evidence to the contrary. I gave them facts and they kept harping on what so and so said.

No, you don't don't want to hear the facts. I work for a company that is based in Europe. Everyday, I talk to Europeans that have dealt with the health care system in Europe. They all despise it, and the one's that are here now can't belive how much better it is over here. All of the people that have moved here can't fathom the idea of switching to that nightmare. The only people this will help will be the one's that don't have insurance. Everyone else will have diminished coverage, more red-tape, and will be paying more taxes for people that don't work. What is that? Socialism.

You haven't presented any facts at all.You have only stated that you talked to people and they don't like it. Is that your idea of scientific proof? I have also talked to people from Europe and they can't believe we have such an inferior medical system. But I don't go by what they say, I go by scientific facts and I presented some to you. You refuse to be educated so I'm done with you. Believe the earth is flat if you want.

What facts would you want other than word of mouth from people that have been there? I don't need to be educated by some clown that wants to look at statistics instead of the experience of people that have been there. Speaking of the earth being flat, you are looking at it backwards. The "scientists" swore the world was flat until the people that actually went there and experience a "round world" proved them wrong. Idiot. You can look at numbers all day, but I'll take personal experience over stats everyday of the week.

Ha ha The ones I have talked to say the opposite, how is that? They like it much better over there. I am thinking that the ones you are talking to are not sick much and only see the doctors for routine stuff. They haven't had any major illnesses or surgeries. You do understand that getting sick these days can easily bankrupt a person? Even when they have insurance. You do understand one surgery can cost as much if not more than a luxury car? Insurance does not cover everything. You do realize that there are shots out there that cost in the thousands just for one shot. It is ridiculous, something needs to change.

To be honest, I don't think you know anybody from Europe, much less talked to them. Don't make shit up Poindexter.

Oh you wiley liberals love to throw out that study but if you really understand it and you appear not to you will realize that it is weighted unfairly toward equality and not quality (which for me at least is most important). The people who did the study are socialists (from Norway). And what was said earlier is correct. You won't like this answer but think about it this way. Where do the people who can go anywhere (rich people) go for healthcare. They go to the U.S. Royality in other countries (even from Europe) come to the U.S for treatment. Our rich citizens don't go to other countries for treatment (unless they are going for a procedure that is not approved here like F. Fawcett). Silly liberal, wrong again.

Question for you. Name something that the public sector does that the private sector also does but the public sector does better. Things that are done for profit are done better because of competition.

The only time Americans leave America for health care is for treatment that isn't cleared in the USA. Why is it not cleared? Because treatments and drugs have to pass a testing process that is more stringent than the rest of the world.

And you think this government provided insurance is going to change that? It is going to be an open check book? That's just stupid. Just what do you think this plan is going to provide that current health care doesn't, other than health care to those that don't work? And, it is a very rare occasion, very, very, rare, that a sickness outruns the coverage of a policy.

I understand more than you. My wife had breast cancer, and had to have surgery and months of treatment. Thank God we were not on a government health care plan, so we had the option to choose the surgeion, and the treatment facility. We had options, and chose the best ones. If it was a government program, we would not have had those options. We would have been given our choices, and that would have been it.
