A rapidly growing group of residents of Panguitch and Hatch believe the Coal Hollow Project is a "curse on the land" and a curse on our lives.
Some of the info in the article needs
updating...there would be 306 trucks a day (and all night) on the highway and through these small, historic, tourism-driven towns. It will kill the largest industry in Garfield Co....tourism. And we are afraid of what else the trucks will kill.

This is a very small mine by mine standards, it's a drop in the energy bucket and not worth the destruction it will bring to the area.

The mine is in Kane Co. which will benefit from it but at the expense of Garfield Co.
The Garfield Co. commissioners and Panguitch city council are coming to the realization that we are facing a major threat to our economy and our lifestyle.

I always hear how badly this area needs jobs but we closed a business recently in part because we couldn't find anyone to work. Many businesses in the area have a great deal of trouble filling open positions with qualified people who are willing to work. My experience of this area is that people who want to work, are. The rest just enjoy complaining more than they do working.

Oh those who have no idea what they are talking about. I live in carbon county (COAL COUNTRY) and we see trucks running 6 days a week 24 hours a day and it does no damage to any one or any thing. And this has been going on for 100 years. And our tourist trade is just as good now as any time I can think of past or present. It would probably do you more good than harm to bring in the mine and all that goes with it. Probably even increase your tourist as more people from around the world come in to work the mine and they relay to others of what the see and find to do in the area. And last when the trucks start rolling than your citys and counties along the route will profit from a state tax on those trucks. That alone would make it worth it to your area.

And don't forget about all those rail cars as well. We set out lots of them there.
