when was the last time you saw one actually patrolling? writing a ticket? or just working in general? what are they getting paid to do? where's our K9?

and before you criticize my questions, think real hard and answer them. seriously. i always see pulaski county, mounds, alexander county, cairo, williamson county, marion, siu and carbondale cars moving around. i very rarely see anna move, and i have a scanner, so i know they aren't all responding to some call.

Hey I see them all the time, either at Pizza Hut or McDonalds, most any night, you can catch a whole group of them, eating out,, ... I myself feel safer when I go out to eat, cause I know there will most likely be a cop there, so I don't have to worry about it getting held up.. lol.

I like the Anna Cop that drives around with the carseat in the front of the cop car so he can take his little one to Jonesboro School while he is on duty. This same one spends most of his time in Jonesboro while he is working for Anna, why don't he go to work for Jonesboro instead. How about the Anna Cop that I seen driving his truck through town pulling a tractor while he is working. Most of the cops that work during the day spend most if not all of their time taking care of personal business. Shoot the fire chief gets more window time cruising in Anna than the cops do. Yea, and we need to put an extra tax on what we buy to support them. Give me a break.

I like the Anna cops. Every time I have EVER had a problem they have responded immediatly.... all I can say is that they have gone above and beyond anything that I have ever needed them for. I think that Anna cops do exactly what they should be doing we have enough State Patrol ASSHOLES in the area doing all the pulling over. Besides that what most people don't realize is that being an Anna cop requires you to be on call just about all the time so yes one of them might take their kid to school or drop something off now and then but what you don't realize is that they may have been out until wee hours or got called to come assist a bar fight at 1am the night before.... And as for them meeting up... who cares... really they need friends to and since it seems like they are always the bad guy they need moral support. Some ones gotta do the dirty work. Besides that by picking on the cops it makes it seem like your guilty of something.

the anna pd isn't on call, they have scheduled hours. and sitting around getting paid to just answer calls? comeon, that isn't police work.

just which one are you dating/related too? they need to work, not get paid by my tax dollars to sit at home and do nothing.

Correct the pd is not on call. They have set hours and don't stray off that without getting overtime pay. They have been getting alot of complaints lately for not responding to calls, but this has been kept on the qt. This group of pd is by far the worst that Anna has seen in a long time.

Well Mr. Citizen, I guess you have figured me out. I seem to fit neatly into the category you place me in. I'm stereotyped, characterized, standardized, classified, grouped, and always typical. I'm the "lousy" cop.

Unfortunately, the reverse isn't true. I can never figure you out.

From birth you teach your children that I am a person to be wary of...and then you're shocked when they identify me with my traditional enemy, the criminal.

You accuse me of coddling juvenile criminals, until I catch your kid doing something.

You may take an hour for lunch and several coffee breaks each day, but point me out as a loafer if you see me having just one cup.

You pride yourself on your polished manners, but think nothing of interrupting my meals with your troubles.

You raise hell about the guy who cuts you off in traffic, but let me catch you doing the same thing and I'm picking on you.

You know all the traffic laws, but never got one ticket you deserved.

You shout "Foul!" if you observe me driving fast enroute to an emergency call, but literally raise hell if I take more than ten seconds responding to your call.

You call it "part of my job" if someone strikes me. But its "police brutality" if I strike back.

You wouldn't think of telling your dentist how to pull a badly decayed tooth, or your doctor how to take out your appendix, but you are always willing to give me pointers on law enforcement.

You talk to me in a manner and use language that would assure a bloody nose from anyone else, but you expect me to stand there and take it without batting an eye.

You cry, "Something has to be done about all the crime!" but you can't be bothered with getting involved.

You've got no use for me at all, but, of course, it's OK if I change a tire for your wife, deliver your baby in the back seat of my patrol car on the way to the hospital, save your son's life with mouth-to-mouth resuscitation, or work many hours overtime to find your lost daughter.

So, Dear Citizen, you stand there on your soapbox and rant and rave about the way I do my job, calling me every name in the book, but never stop a minute to think that your property, your family, or maybe your life might depend on one thing - me, or one of my buddies.

Yes, me, the lousy cop.

I would like to say I appreciate what the police officers do. I wouldn't want to deal with the kind of people that they have to deal with. When I received a ticket, I really don't think I was speeding at that time, but I have speeded several times and I haven't been caught. So it balanced out.

That's a great piece of writing, truely. My husband is a cop, not in Anna, but a cop nonetheless. He doesn't get to clock in from home, sit at home while on the clock, nor the police department. He actually has to patrol, be seen in public, not just respond to calls. He doesn't have to write tickets, but he does. That's the one leeway they have where he works, but he does have to be active.

I guess what I'm saying is this, that piece of writing would apply to a cop who actually does his job. Not like the police officers in Anna, who do next to nothing all shift. Not taking anything away from their profession, even in Anna, I'm sure it can get and be dangerous. But let's get real, like the OP asked, just what are they getting paid to do when you don't ever see them at all, except at their homes or at a resturant?

And so you know, I don't live in Anna, but have family there. I come down quite often and have yet to see a police car on patrol.

The Anna Police do an excellant job, patrolling may not be as extensive as it used to be. This may be due to funding, the price of gasoline.I don't understand why you are making unfounded statements. They put their life on the line everytime they go on duty. Not everyone in Anna is an upstanding citizen. Be thankful when you call in your hour of need ! I'm sure they will be there, even if they don't get a thank you.

The Anna police do a fine job with what they have to work with. If you have never seen them on patrol then you dont get out much. I have lived here for six years and they do not harass the public like some smaller town cops do. They have enough to do with all the douche bags running around town.

Exactly what do they have to work with? Several newer cars, nice equipment, and no, they don't patrol like they should. I've lived in Anna going on 20 years, and this group of officers don't patrol nearly as much as when I first got here. And some of the same people still work there.
A policeman's job is to be seen, it's proactive. Not reactive. Gas prices aren't that bad, all of their cars are v6s, and yet I very rarely see one driving around. I'm not saying they have to write a bunch of tickets, although maybe that would help fix the ladder truck, but at least be visible.
And personally, I think very few of our current officers would really like to work any where but here, for their own safety. Just an observation.

You know you want to complain about that the police doesn't patrol enough but I have seen them patroling plenty of times and maybe they don't patrol the whole 8 hours that they are working but they also have to do paperwork too. Without the paperwork being done alot of the other work can't be done. I think the only reason some of you have a problem with the cops is because they gave you a ticket or arrested you for something.

As far as the k9 goes go to the city council and ask them! for the nosey guy with the scanner alot of the time the cops are doing paper work. and if there is a call its handeled by phone for people like you! the resason you always see other places working so hard is there is no tax base. you would be the first person to call for help if needed for your problem, and the first to criticize them for something you have no clue about.

Well I for one love this small town of Mayberry, and I for one think Andy and all the Barney(s) are doing a wonderful job. Shucks Aunt Bee is happy as all get out with Comer and Gober standing around with grins from ear to ear.
