What the hell is wrong with these people? I wish we were allowed to be armed. In states where carrying is legal the crime rate is a whole lot lower. Who would try and jack someone who is packing? The law isn't helping, so we need to help ourselves.

As long as there are liquor stores in the area supplying other things besides liquor, the problems will get bigger. Now was the victim of color also ?The media likes to shake up the neighborhoods when they mention blacks. And exactly how much money was stolen from the victim? What about the rest of the details ??Where was he parked??The sheriffs in Altadena are some of the best ! They will catch these perpetrators in no time!

We need more churches.
I wouldn't put a church in the same category as liquor stores and gangs.
We need legitimate business' so what's wrong with barber shops.
I don't understand why the victim did not leave correct information at the hospital which was probably Huntington Memorial. Didn't he have insurance?
Bottom line: what do we tell kindergarteners? Don't talk to strangers. Don't ride with strangers.
This was a bold, brazen act to do at 6:30 PM
Why didn't someone help the victim?

Burglaries, robberies and now beatings. Where are the Sheriff? Oh sure they arrived after the fact and of course found nothing, what's new?

Perhaps it was nap time for the deputies and they were all sleeping like the one I saw sleeping in his car on Allen Ave at Homewood the other day.

Shamefull!!

Sheriff's can't be everywhere at once. Residents need to be vigilant, and know their surroundings. Neighbors need to watch out for suspicious activity in their hood. We have to be the sheriffs extended deputies.

The victim leaving false information was just plain dumb.

I did NOT make up the part about seeing a duputy asleep in his black and white patrol car. The only error was that he was parked one block south of Homewood, I went a looked to be sure of where he was.

oooof. Somehow I glossed over the "sleeping deputy" part.

Let's hope he was on a commissioned break. I'd hate to think that deputies are sleeping on the job.

I can imagine legitimate reasons why a victim would prefer not to get involved (e.g., fear of reprisal), but there are also scenarios under which the victim's hands are unclean (e.g., he sought out a hooker or some other illicit pursuit). What's going on here? Are there any innocent victims, or are they all scum?

No, we don't need anymore churches! There are at least 3 churches within 500 feet of where this happened! I love how people think that religion will somehow solve a problem like this when it actually causes these problems. If you look at any neighborhood with high crime rates, you will usually see a lot of churches in the immediate area. Hmm, why do you think that is? Pasadena alone has over 150 churches! 150!!! ENOUGH!

Churches, liquor stores, check cashing and that damn barber shop are all draws for these people. This neighborhood sucks. We need more police patrols, cameras, and a better neighborhood watch program. SOMETHING.

They plant churches in areas like this as ministries to the people. Comparing them to liquor stores is just ridiculous. Stick with the fact there needs to be more Police presence.

Except it's not working... until it does, we don't need any more, especially no more of the self-segregated kind...

How do you know it is not working? Perhaps there would be more criminals if it were not for some of the church programs. But I do agree with the self-segregated issue. Makes me sick when I see churches with signs for specific racial / ethnic groups. It screams "Do NOT enter unless you are X!" Washington Blvd has a ton of them for HYE.

We have to look for "causal relationships".
A) Does the addition of more churches to an area *cause* high crime rates
or
B) does high crime rates in an area *cause* the addition of more churches
or
C) are they completely independent events?

I think B is a more likely explanation than A.

Plus, let's assume that the churches are preaching a good message. Well, having folks hear that message over and over can't be a bad thing.
Oh Sure

Oh Sure, it's OK for cops to sleep in a police car parked at the curb. Just like it was OK for bill clinton to have sex with an intern.
