This is clearly a case of racism by the police. At no time was this person informed of why he was being chased and he was also not given a choice of being chased by a black officer or a white officer. He was not offered the sanctity of a church or a grief counselor from a local dumbed down govt school. Saying he headed south on Hwy 400 implies he is black and headed for the safe haven of black criminals, Atlanta. He could simply have been a dumb reddneck lost in the city and unable to read his jacknife compass due to electrical interference of modern utilities.

I demand Jesse, Al, and Oprah be broughtin to investigate. Oprah can sneak Gail into her bedroom after the sun goes down.

Many departments can chase for moving violations. You should do an open records request for there pursuit policy. From the sounds of the media, which is usually inaccurate or not the full story, the driver failed to stop prior to entering the roadway from a parking lot, OCGA 40-6-144. Good job Alpharetta, too bad you let him get away. Way to be alert though.

Good morning John Doe,
I gotta nit pick your response just a little bit. No offense intended.
If the driver can see for a distance in both directions that the sidewalk is clear of pedestrians, and there is no vehicular traffic on the roadway that could be affected by the vehicle entering the flow of traffic, there is NO reason for the driver to come to a complete stop. The stated reason for a pursuit in this article does NOT justify "Probable Cause".
Since there was no victim of the actions of this particular person, I see no justifiable cause for an arrest warrant. Have a good day, and be safe.

TITLE 40. MOTOR VEHICLES AND TRAFFIC
CHAPTER 6. UNIFORM RULES OF THE ROAD
ARTICLE 7. NEGOTIATING RAILROAD CROSSINGS, ENTERING HIGHWAYS FROM PRIVATE DRIVEWAYS

O.C.G.A.§ 40-6-144 (2007)
§ 40-6-144. Emerging from alley, driveway, or building.
The driver of a vehicle emerging from an alley, building, private road, or driveway within a business or residential district shall stop such vehicle immediately prior to driving onto a sidewalk or onto the sidewalk area extending across such alley, building entrance, road, or driveway or, in the event there is no sidewalk area, shall stop at the point nearest the street to be entered where the driver has a view of approaching traffic thereon. The driver of a vehicle shall yield the right of way to any pedestrian on a sidewalk. No person shall drive any vehicle upon a sidewalk or sidewalk area except upon a permanent or duly authorized driveway.

Normal patrol at a hotel? I stay at the Motel 6 where they leave the lights on for you, cause if they don’t leave the lights on your gonna get mugged. Was this a Motel 6, do they have a Motel 6 in Alpharetta? Why would a fine upstanding person just run from the cops? They don’t mention if the car was stolen, or that he was selling drugs, they just chased this person for no reason. Perhaps he didn’t know he was being chased and was simply taking a drive and saw some nut chasing him? So many questions and so little time. What do you suppose the charges would be eluding the police for no reason? He can be glad was not in a wheel chair, doink.

obviously the dept did it right. One the stayed back and practiced due regard. Second they were sure of a good id on the driver. The driver wisely ended the chase by bailing out and running. Good for everyone. No crash no death no law suit. The driver at the very least has lost is car and will not get it back. He'll also lose his license. Probably revoked. This is the way it is supposed to be done. Don't pursue to the point of it getting dangerous for innocents over a traffic or drug stop. Some wise experienced watch commander probably called it off and told the officers to lay back. Thank you.

Apparently you don't know the Alpharetta PD policy, they can chase for anything.
I was listening to this on the scanner and they already knew who the guy was and he had previous felony warrants for his arrest for drugs, plus they found meth in the car and scales. This guy was a drug dealer and he bailed on foot in Roswell. They know who he is and where he lives and he now has several more felony warrants for his arrest.
The officers did a great job of blocking intersections and playing it safe. The driver was the only one who was reckless.

The shift commander was in the chase and did not call it off. The guy is a known drug dealer and has warrants for his arrest already at the time of the chase. Meth was found in the car.
Alpharetta's policy allows officers to chase for almost anything and seldom are chases called off.
The law is on the side of the police as far as chases go so says the US Supreme Court. When you run from Alpharetta they are going to chase you, maybe thats why they are one of the few cities in Fulton County with such a low crime rate, they dont mess around, period.

You sounds like an idiot. This guy was a known drug dealer and drugs were found in the car. Officers in Alpharetta patrol hotels at night becuase of a rash of car break ins. This guy peeled out in front of the officer and drive recklessly. He also was already wanted on drug charges at the time of the chase. When he saw 6 police cars behind him with sirens I think he knew he was being chased. Also when he wrecked his car into a ditch and ran I think he knew he was being chased. Chased for "no reason", why dont you pull your head out of your ace and smell the roses. Alpharetta did a great job at making sure other motorists were kept out of the way of this reckless drug dealer.
Hes known to them and he now has about 9 felony warrants for his arrest. He should be in jail by weeks end.

Not true, the CV has a greater 0-60 speed and a greater top end speed plus its REAR WHEEL DRIVE meaning it will perform better in a high speed chase than the Impala. Keeping up with him wasnt the problem. It was when the guy wrecked and took off on foot into a heavily wooded area that he got away. But hes wanted now and will be in jail soon enough.
