If a community sticks together, and reports problems to police, usually, the community can win against the criminals.

I wish them luck.

I recently attended a similar version with the Gwinnett police Quality of Life division. I was impressed that my county is also proactive with city council and active HOA's. Our security rest solely on own shoulders. It is a sad and a fact that hard times wil be around for awhile and also the criminals. As a board member of my HOA, i know first hand how hard it is to deal with enforcing and maintaining a community, but the success lies in prevention. The hard part is getting the average working class person to concerned about something they have not had the pleasure of being bothered by.

"lloking" should be "looking" (4th paragraph, second sentence). Really, how long is it going to take for you to get a real editor? Something as simple as SpellCheck would have caught this.

I've worked with our PACT officer for years - he's very involved in the community. Too bad all neighborhoods aren't able to have this set up. But yes, I still carry a gun. Turns out a bullet is quicker than the police.

It's sad how Alpharetta is now getting crime. Build low cost apartments and the 'thugs' move in and ruin everything. Apartments = Crime in this town. This program sounds great.

I live in Dekalb (Dunwoody) and the police force have been helpful in responding after we set up a neighborhood watch after repeated break-ins.

It took one of the neighbors catching the perp and beating the tar out of him to get some consistent response from the county.

Open season on vandals, burglars, and thieves. And no bag limit!

What more could a vet ask for!

Do they sell .223 ammunition in Alpharetta?

I lived in Stone Mountain and recently moved because of the crime in and around the area. The Home Owners meet with police, the police enlisted the help of the people living in and around the area in trying to stop crime. BAD NEWS It didn't help. The only way to combat crime is to run the thugs out of town along with the parents. And don't tell me that the parents are innocent. My parents knew what I was doing then and still know what I do now. My kids, I know what they are doing all the time. The Parents Are As Guilty as the Kids That Live Under Their Roofs.

We agree, the police cannot do everything. They need citizens to be aware of what is going on and informing them when things are not right.

With our help, the police can accomplish much.

I've lived in alpharetaa for 9 yrs. Good community. I leave things in my car and donot worry about burglars or car thief, much less home invasion. Crime is very low. Historically has been. This new economy and so plans signed and enacted over the last 12 yrs have come home to roost in a lot of communities. Crime is rampant all over the metro area. But petty crime is not around here yet to the degree in other communities. You talk of home invasions hollering annie get your gun. But 3 a month. Not mentioning there were two million plus homes that weren't invaded. 30 people robbed, 6million who didn't. 10 cars jacked 12million left alone. A well armed and trained citizenery is good. But everyone walking around packing looking for an opportunity to shoot is just devilish and just as dangerous. The fact still is that most of us never need a gun. There are millions of guns made and sold and go fifty yrs ,never firing a shot in anger or fear or need. This imaginary righteous shoot is fallacy and dreams of a few very sorted people who watch too many movies and have miserable personal lives. Trying to compensate for other weaknesses in life and trying to be finally empowered by some steel object meant only for one thing. Killing people. Yes we do need to be more vigilant in this failing economy. People become more desperate as their options shrink. But everyone rush off to the local gun store has it's own set of problems and consequences.

I worked as a cop and investigator for 30 years and studied the history of crime and it's causes. This will not work, it will help some but it will not rid the neighborhood of crime, what mark suggested will work.

You hunting people now. You belong on that movie wrong turn. Or texas chainsaw massacre. Or maybe amistad as one of those slavers. Your in the wrong century. You fit in better in our barbaric past. I wish the tested better to exclude sociopaths like you from honorable service. Your like LT kally at mai lai. Thank God the didn't let you be a police officer. Your just as criminal minded as the criminals and as much of a scrug to our society. At least some of them have excuses. Drug habits, felony records and bad associations. But you good job. Plenty of opportunity. Nobody prejudiced against you for your ethnic background. Your a citizen by God's choice to make you american. All this and your still bad. Your reason is mental illness. Oh i forgot sorry. You don't believe in God.
