Barberton district a winner

After voters rejected the Barberton schools' bond issue in November, officials asked for a little less in Tuesday's primary election and voters gave them a little more, helping to push it just over 50 percent.

Barberton did a good thing by scrapping the unnecessary items from the November issue and stayed with the things they really need. Getting rid of Norton Homes will surely help the city and the properties surrounding the area.

Only as far as the county is concerned. Try selling your house for more $$ just because your tax burden increased.

Don't put your wallets away just yet, Barbertucky - they will be back asking us for more soon, just as they did with the new High School several years ago.

They never tell you up front, that we have no resources available to actually staff, equip and operate these new elaborate facilities. They just assume that we will have no choice but to pass their additional operating levy, once the new schools are actually built. Remember when we had to pass an emergency operating levy, because they couldn't even afford to open the doors of the new High School several years ago ? Very under-handed tactics, if you ask me...

It may be a great day for the school district but it's a disaster for the people of Barberton. Too bad more people didn't get out and vote against this tragedy.

Well, figure it out. They have the staff at the current facilities who will transfer over to the new - what ARE you talking about? Paranoia. This is fantastic thing for my town and I'm more than happy to kick in my additional share. I'm glad that people finally got smart and realized how this is a positive thing for us.

It is just as easy to vote against the next one. I figure this one passed, they shouldn't be asking for more any time soon. If they do, something is terribly wrong.

How so? The owner of a 100,000 dollar house will only have to pay an additional 15 dollars a month......the cost of a pizza more or less.

We get rid of the riff raff in Norton Homes. This is a benefit any way you look at it.

The property values will increase.

Two old schools get torn down and a new one built in place of one of the old ones, the old Santrock Elementary will have the property sold to people who want to build single family homes on the parcels and a percentage of the sale of that property will go to the schools. I like this idea since one of the properties I own is in that area and the construction of newer homes there only helps the cause in that neighborhood. I might actually SELL it this time.

I normally vote against any and all tax increases but this one was worth it.

Barberton voters were just handed an even larger bill then they know. Soon enough operating money will be needed to add buses and with the price of gas skyrocketing will need money to operate double the busing they do now. Thats not to mention the extra money they will need to upkeep these school. They went to every non-taxpayer in the projects and got out the vote from people who will soon be living in your neighborhood under welfare housing. Yes Oakdale, hnighland and any other school property they have will soon be AMHA housing. Then you will be complaining how all these loud lowlife people will be in your neighborhoods stealing and damaging your property. For those who wanted to see the Norton homes gone surely didn;t want to live down there but soon enough they will be living in your neighborhood. The last laughs going to be on you.
You don't have to rent or sell to anyone you don't think is fit to pay. This is why there are background and credit checks.

The properties are going to be sold to anyone who wants to buy one, or all. Hell, I might even take up an offer there!

There's only so many dollars available from residents and the schools just keep asking for more every year. Everyone keeps asking for more each year. We're being taxed beyond our ability to then have anything left over for us. Interest rates are down, prices are up, traditional supply and demand is gone in favor of monopolistic controls. And we got Bush. Good grief.......

Then you got a tax increase, congrats on getting what you asked for I just wish you hadn't drug me down with you, you could have donated money to the schools without forcing money out of my pocket. Try and think of others next time.
