My 18 year old stays up till 3 am, sleeps till 11am or weekends 1pm. Its very hard to get anything done for feel of waking him and the verbal abuse.
He also yells at his girlfriend to much and we don't see a way to destress or get through to him. He is a short tempered yeller. We can't figure were that came from.
We actually want him out. Love him and hate him.
He needs to get out more, get a job and mature. Driving us nuts. Should we cut off his privleges, car, phone, etc till he gets a job?
We'll take advise. Nothing has worked yet. Is it time for the tough love?

I'm 18. I have a full-time job, I volunteer downtown and I'm a happy person. I also sleep a lot, when I can, sometimes till 1. I don't think how much sleep he is getting has anything to do with him being upset all the time. If he's 18, and doesn't have any responsibilities, then something is seriously wrong. Yes, it is time for tough love as you would call it. It was time for tough love years ago.

You cant be serious about the 18 year old "yeller" . If you are then just kick him out and rest assured that he will be just fine.....in jail...

Hello I'm seventeen and I get about eight hours of sleep a day.I think that it doesn't always have to do with the amount of sleep you get but just how mentally and physically exhausted you are from the day. The day after my finals I slept fourteen hours and still felt exhausted! I think some of us overwork our bodies and that's why we end up needing more sleep.

If you don't know how much sleep a teenager needs then you're too stupid to be around one.

WHAT kind of a stupid question was that?

/WHAT KIND OF A STUPID COMMENT IS THAT! For the fact that Teenager or not, no two people are alike. Some people require more sleep then others. Everyone is different and do you really know just off the top of your head how much sleep a newborn infant requires vs. a teenager vs. an adult???? Prrrrobably not!

Hi I'm 16 and I get around 5 hours a night. From juggling school work at night to working out in the morning I find it hard to sleep. It usually takes me 2-4 hours AFTER laying down to fall asleep and I constantly wake up during the night (about 2 times on week nights) I'm not sure why this is and my mother is saying it is starting to affect how i function daily. My friends and family say I look tired but I don't feel any different. This has gone on for about 2 years now. Can someone help?

Life hasn't exactly been plain sailing recently but you're navigating your way through calmer waters again. In fact, you're feeling pretty sunny-tempered and relaxed, and may even wonder what all the fuss was about during the past few days.
