Sad perhaps, but honestly, is anyone surprised by this?

And if not, why?

Can you spell GREED? The "faithful" get screwed and the pope gets richer. Cullen is a traitor to "his Flock".

Now Bishop Cullen is retiring after he destroyed the Diocese of Allentown and Philadelphia. He recently joined Lehigh Country Club at diocesan expense and rather than live in the Villa for retired priests, where Bishop Welsh lives, the Diocese bought him a large house and is spending many hundreds of thousands on renovations to get ready for his retirement. Then the Diocese will pay for a housekeeper and cook, take care of the grounds, taxes and pay all his expenses including food while he is living. He could have moved into the Villa and saved the diocese millions during the length of his retirement but he feels he is above the rest of the priests and needs his own private residence. The Villa is good enough for retired Bishop Welsh for all these years but Cullen thinks he is above us all. Or is he?

The Catholic Church is corrupt and its all about money to them. People have finally figured this out and their congregations have withered down to just the elderly hanger-ons.

ALL religions and their institutions are corrupt, and the source of most if not all of societies problems.

Go back to DC-- We don't need you sticking your Washington politics into our Diocese. Just because you "were" from the area doesn't mean you know what is going on now. You must have some DC mentality...

Hey, you are preaching to the choir. I'm atheist. But the Catholic Church outshines most in this regard. I can respect a person's right to believe in what they want, but I admit I cringe a little when people tell me they are catholic.

I agree we are also " and we are practically selling our life's blood to keep our school afloat." I question why some catholic schools have more resources than others? Sure they might have more students however with the diocese having soo much money they should come up with costs for a school and each school gets the same and has the same resources not one catholic school have more than the other! Its unfair!!

Stay on topic. When our churches are sold from under us because cullen thinks there "hot properties". That should provoke some serious Ghandi type discussions!

Why shouldn't an empty unused building of any type be sold and used productively. An unoccupied building will only deteriorate and become an eyesore, no to mention a haven for drugs and vagrants. Sell the buildings and make some money.

Just a question since I am not Catholic--Is this going on in other parts of Pa.--in other parts of the US or is this just a local thing. I can't believe if all the "empty" churches are sold this would provide more money for the Catholic churches around the world. Help me out with this issue.
