Yeah I did see that one twice. I've got DVD's of all three...now this discussion's got me thinking I should watch all of them again.
That one is of a very different mold than the other two; it's less interested in telling the story of Jesus and focuses exclusively on the suffering he is to have endured for humanity. It's a technically proficient film and I agree it's hard to watch at times--Jesus is all too "flesh and blood" here! However I think film critic Leonard Maltin summed it up pretty well: "As film making and storytelling it seems narrow and repetitive, if not downright obsessive. However a film that preaches solely to the choir yet speaks so strongly to those who share its beliefs is difficult to judge objectively."
This has got me thinking of another couple of questions(if you're getting tired of this you can say so and I'll understand, but I find this infinitely more interesting than counting how many hairs we can split over the definition of viability.)

I know the message of the story is basically that sustained faith and unbroken love for God will allow you to overcome any adversity, sort of a "triumph of the spirit," but I could never help but feel that God was something of a sadist in it.
If he's omniscient, he already knows Job will never curse him. Is he trying to teach Satan a lesson about faith? If so, why? Doesn't he already know that by his very nature Satan will not be able to absorb such a lesson?
Why would God enter into such a bet with the Devil in the first place?
