Kind of makes you feel guilty if you dont vote yes for the aims community college tax district. The youth of this country are going to need a good education in order to pay for all the deficit spending our government is doing.

Ask not what Berthoud can do for you--But what you can do for Berthoud.

The AIMS Community College will be a wonderful benefit to our community, when it is built. However, the AIMS tax district does not make sense. There is no guarantee WHEN Aims will build. The money could be collected from our community for 10 years without any tangible benefits back to Berthoud. AIMS will build whether the community pays this extra tax or not. I think the case is not strong enough for a yes vote. I'm voting no.

Way to Go Berthoud. Everyone should be proud of voting down funding for Aims Community College. Its good to see that Berthoud still has that small town with small minds mentality.

The vote didn't turn down funding; it denied setting up a special taxing district. The school will still build and still benefit the town, just without an extra funding tax for all residents. The tax would far offset the tuition benefit that most would see, so that's probably why most voted it down. I did the calculations myself, and even if all members of my family used the tuition credit to the max, I would still pay more than $15,000 into tax over the life my home(s) ownership. That hardly means that berthoud citizens do think this deeply; they do not.

What berthoud needs is some sort of tourist attraction. build it and they will come. $$$$

No, the treatment plant did not burn down. The town had to build a new plant because the old one did not meet state standards. They built to a size they thought the town would grow in a few years. That did not happen and the present plant operates at about 25% of capacity. That also means fewer users to pay off the bonds. Hence the rates are high. The old plant has been dismantled. |
