I weep for the people in Alice, TX

There truly is so much potential in this town. There are people who are so positively BRILLIANT in areas which they may have exceeded in, but never really bothered to pursue simply because it would "ruin" their "image" if they were viewed as a "nerd" or a "geek" (basically anything SMART!). Why are people so afraid of being who they are?! Why do so many decide that they are no better than the "norm" and end up as drop-outs, outcasts,'gangstas','haters', etc??? Why do so many think their only refuge is to start meaningless threads about people all around town (and surrounding areas) full of malicious slander that is only going to cause disputes among the residing individuals??? Everyone, the "younger" generation especially, needs to stop worrying so much about reputation and "who is with who" and start focusing on the days to come. Life has so much to offer if one can embrace it. I only hope the future holds more promise than the present...

In a perfect world...things would b like that. Unfortunately I don't c the ppl in Alice changing any time soon. Probably just get worse, if that's possible

I completely agree with you. I posted a thread a while back and got only one response. These people only care about the scandals and digging their noses where they don't belong. Pathetic Alice.

I agree. It is not just alice, but all the surrounding towns. I have lived in cities and towns and I have to say that alice is one of the worst. someone should just nuke this damn place. it would be a service to the state of texas to save those people who have potential and just kill off the rest! this town will never change for the better.

Really? Honestly, what and why do you think makes this town so unique in this type of negativity. Do some of you really think this type of drama happens only in Alice, TX. Do other towns in the U.S. or other cultures share our type of behaviour. What makes this town so special?

"ribanez": Such drastic measures shouldn't be necessary. If people would simply open their eyes and look at things in a more compassionate, sympathetic manner, perhaps they would realize that their actions and words (mainly words where this site is concerned) are hurtful and maybe, just MAYBE they might realize that being so slanderous is not only making them look bad, but also hurts more people than they care to acknowledge.....
"necessary evil": I do not think there is anything special or specific about the behavior that occurs in Alice. I believe there are many other towns all across the globe that participate in such lewd and disturbing behavior, however those in the surrounding areas have no interest in mirrored antics in such places as China or England, etc. The world is based on close-knit communities that are, typically, only concerned about what is happening in their general area (as far as "local drama" is concerned.). The people in THIS area need to realize that the more insults and rumors they spew, the less likely anyone in this country will take us seriously in ANY aspect, even if it is a serious matter.

Alice people....you all say as if it's one being. Some people who chose this path does not place the rest of us in their category...I love Alice, I was born and raised here and "Alice es buena Gente"!

It's not just Alice people its everywhere, and if you don't like the drama the town brings then stay away and get off of the Alice forum. Noone asks you to read the posts. You're chismosa so you get on just to read the gossip and the sh*t talking. You're just as much at fault than any Alice citizen.

I'm reading a two year blog about a man's quest to be the first person to ever walk the entire length of the Amazon and this just caught my eye.

He explains the ignorance and fear that ensues the isolated natives. It reminds me of the Alicians on Topix and who I've met on my trip out there this weekend.

While some think ignorance is bliss, I believe it is dangerous to advancement of any community.

Do not assume that all the trash you read here defines what most of the Alice population is. Do not blame the majority for the minority. Although the town sickens me at times, it is not that bad of a place. As long as you raise your children right they will learn who to associate with.

actually i think you have it reversed. the majority are the bad ones and the minority are the good ones left. and anyone that says alice es buena jente is seriously delusional. i moved away decades ago and went recently to visit family and was shocked just going grocery shopping and from what i hear about sluggers and the surrounding bars, i mean its sickening. not to mention how bad "281" has supposedly gotten. needless to say, i couldnt wait to leave.

hmmmm, I also left decades ago but was in Corpus this weekend. The first women I met at the bar at Cheddars grossed me out enough to reconsider whether I should try to hook up with anyone while I was down there. No respect and very little to no class!
