I prefer to go out and browse my local shop for movie rentals. I do not like downloading or netflix or redbox. These things rob real people of jobs, and the last thing we need to do is contribute to a weaker economy and higher unemployment rates. It's time for regular people to start looking out for themselves and their neighbors and stop shooting themselves in the foot economically for the sake of "convenience"-- and even that is an arguable point... to me, having a pc, a monthly internet payment, a monthly rental service payment and waiting for a couple hours for a download is not "convenient". Just drive a few blocks to your local rental store and rent a movie for 2-3 bucks. Duh...

I would like to thank you. People like you saves jobs. |

Uh- I think Redbox is a company and I think people work for it - Duh!
So far I let go 10 people this year. I payed them from $6.50 to 8.75 per hour + I paid half of the health insurance Our stores rental starts at .99 cents for 5 nights for the older movies New rel are $ 3.49 for 5 nights. Life for the 10 families that lost their jobs because people like you support a little box and not the people that maybe you might know. I think that shows who the stooge is. |
I'll be you don't use Polaroid cameras, typewriters, aluminum siding, 8 tracks or cassettes.
Come up with a better way to offer movie rentals or figure out a way to offer a better experience that only a brick and mortar company can offer. Soon Netflix or Red Box will be obsolete...what will be the next new way of renting movies? That's how you stay in business. It's called competition and it's good thing. It keeps prices lower, quality high and choices aplenty. |

Movies paid his/her employees min. wage (and probably ZERO benefits). WHAT A PHILANTHROPIST! I'm sure you would have paid them less, but it's against the law.
Direct download/streaming content is the way of now and the future. I loved Netflix Instant Queue, just didn't use it enough to justify. Let's see, go to a vid store, HOPE they have something you want to watch, or click "Watch it now" have it streaming to your media PC instantly. I can't wait until movie studios realize the money they would make by releasing something on PPV the same time it's released in theaters.$7.50/ticket?$8 for popcorn? Talk about a ripoff. The people who worked for "Movies" couldn't even afford to go to one... by themselves. BWAHHAHA! |
They made more than min. wage and forgive me I paid for half of the health insurance for my employees and family do you know what insurance cost? And they had jobs. now they get unemployment that is paid by you and your taxes I'm sure they would like to thank you in person |

this is a just post made out of bitterness by someone who did not win at the game. I am sorry for them but that's business. Fill a niche and people will buy your product.
Right, so what they had jobs? The more people go to high speed internet or cable ppv movies the more jobs are created in that industry. The more computers are bought, the more jobs in the retail and repair industry. The list goes on and on...in fact the new technologies have more potential to create more jobs than you could offer. Like I said, do it better than the competitors. Be innovative, be competitive...THAT's what America is about. |
You are right that's why unemployment is at 9.8
What is the reason unemployment is at 9.8? Because people are watching PPV? Using Netflix? C'mon dude...you've got to be kidding?! |

1 I'm shocked by the insults lobbed my direction. I shouldn't be surprised, I suppose. Most people don't get it. The rentals at my movie store are $4 for 5 nights. That's twenty cents less than Redbox per night. Older movies are $2 for 5 nights. Redbox doesn't even have older movies. That's not the point really. The point is, when I shop a local independent, the money I spend pays locals a salary, which they can then use to shop locally and support MY business. It is always better to shop local independents, because the revenue helps your local economy and helps insure you continue to have a job. Where does your money go when you shop Redbox or Netflix? When you stream? I urge you all to attempt to shop local and independent businesses. Trickster, I do not want to have a life that is so tied to the internet. I like to get out and interact with others. Just saying, how many people do you know personally who have a job in the internet? How many do you know who lost their jobs due to the internet? There's innovation and competition... and then there's stupidity. It's stupid to do things that cause harm to yourself. Renting videos from a robot machine or the internet is not beneficial to your local economy. The ten people it put out of jobs might be customers who support your employer. And for what? To save $20 this whole year? Maybe? Congratulations, you put yourself out of a job to save $20. Brilliant. And do you think it will stay $1 if they corner the market. Oh no... This is all just my opinion, but I think it's true. Judging by the insults tossed my way, I think you know it's true, too. People only get mad when they're wrong. |
So now, if people disagree with you then they are insulting you.
Maybe you should't be posting on a message board if you're going to take things so personally. YOU posted the topic and that opened it up for discussion which means you went asking for opinions. No one insulted you...they just disagreed. |
There's a difference between disagreeing and calling someone a clown and a stooge. I think I was also called bitter. So you are wrong. They didn't just disagree. They couldn't come up with a convincing counter to my opinion and resorted to personal attacks.
Please be smart and use your economic power more wisely. Spend your income in ways that strengthen your local economy. The internet is cool... for getting free stuff. Let's leave it at that. Instead of shopping online, purchase things locally if at all possible. And NEVER EVER give your business to a machine when you can support a fellow American. |
You made a good point, think about the people you live by not just yourself. |
BAER...Red Box, TWC and Netflix are all American companies. Like, I've said...do it better than they do and you won't have anything to worry about. |
the comapanies metioned above (BAER, Redbox, TWC) are all about PROFIT...not fair competition, and do NOTHING for your local economy..
What's wrong with profit? What's not fair? They just do it better than the brick and mortar companies. The market decides...it's not a charity.
and BAER is text speak for Big A$$ Eye Roll. |
Local businesses need to learn how to meet the market's needs and demands.
For example, I shop locally at the Farm Supply because they offer and experience that I can't get at Lowe's. I shop at Stowe Mercantile because they offer an experience that Lowe's can't provide. I get my coffee at the Java Bean because they are JUST as good as Starbucks and is closer. They are also more personal. I order pizza and wings from Mr. D's because it's better than the chain even though it costs more. I do support local businesses as long as the business meets my needs and expectations. The way to stay in business is to do what the chains, internet or machines do but better. |
