I am trying to locate relatives of Carl Tisthammer from Newman Grove. He was a WWI & WWII vet. I have a 20 Franc currency note from Algeria dated 1941. The note was signed by 9 solders. The most prominent name is "Carl Tisthammer, Newman Grove, Neb.". I would like to give this to his relatives. I talked to one gentleman in Albion, but he did not think he was related.

The Carl Tisthammer I am referring to was in charge of German POWs at Howard Lake in 1947 after his N. Africa service. I, also, believe he may have been Postmaster of Newman Grove at one time.

I would greatly appreciate any help in locating Mr. Tisthammer's relatives. Again, I want to GIVE this beautiful piece of history to a relative who would appreciate its value.

Sincerely….David Higgs, Savannah, GA

Hello. Carl Tisthammer was a cousin to my great-grandfather Sever Gearhardt Tisthammer, and a second cousin to my grandfather Allen Tisthammer of Neligh, NE. I spoke with my grandfather and he would be interested in this particular piece of his family history. You may contact me at ahanson@telebeep.com. Thank you very much.

Just ran across this link during a search for family links. Carl Tisthammer was my grandfather! My father was his youngest son, Carl Gutru Tisthammer. We have always heard wonderful stories about Grandad and WWII. How can I contact you? I would cherish being able to receive the note and the history behind how you got it, etc. Thanks, Deb

I just found this link as I was google searching my family names just out of curiousity. I'm the great grandson of Carl Tisthammer. My grandmother Jean Tisthammer was his daughter. She married John Branlund (obviously my grandfather) and her name then changed to Jean Branlund. I have heard some great stories as well about Carl. In fact my mother used to visit him every summer in Newman Grove, NE and says that he and I are very similar in personality. Unfortunately I'll never know because I never got to meet him. Well I hope that someone in the family was able to obtain these coins. I can be reached at aks305@gmail.com
Thanks, Adam

Daily Horoscope for January 1

Libra

Happy New Year, Libra!. How's that poor old body feeling this morning?! If you're having a gathering, include casual acquaintances or newcomers as if they were one of the family. You're a real social animal and you know how to put people at their ease. This is a wonderful talent: not only do you have a network of friends and social contacts, as well as business ones, but you have the ability to bring others together. Perhaps you should start a dating agency this year!
