I've read a lot of posts lately on this site about things that need to change in Breckenridge and Stephens County. Name THE ONE thing that you think is the most important thing that must be changed locally, AND how it can be done. Let's keep it civil if we can and see if we can come up with some solid solutions for our community.

The same thing that i've been saying since I was a kid. Something for the kids to do. A bowling alley or something?? Like what is going on with the old store across from allsups. There needs to be more for the kids to do than drink beer and get pregnant.

why not make our schools a place where our children want to be. thats where their friends are. its proably there that some of them feel the safest. we have a big drug problem with drugs and teen pregnancy. my daughter came home the other day and told me that she had heard that 2 jr. high girls were pregnant. yesterday she said that one of them had a miscarriage. these kids need some attention, they are begging for it. we need a regular sex education program. i wish i knew how to fix it, i would. if these young children are getting pregnant this is their way of getting attention.

There were over 35 pregnancies in the High School last year from what my sister has told me. She is in High School. She said the girls were betting on who would get pregnant first. None of the parents of the "popular" kids are even worried about where there kids are. They are getting drunk all the time and having sex with random people. I heard they were talking about putting a daycare in the school it is getting so bad.

It is simple.Do something, anything to give these kids somewhere to go and something to do. There is nothing here for them. Every time we hear something good might be built for the kids, it falls apart. The city is going to have to back one of these projects, but I guess they would rather have the probation money from these kid's, better yet their struggling parent's pay check instead. Can we come together as citizens and demand something for these kids, will anyone listen to us, and how many of us actually accept the responsibility of our communities youth? Maybe as the men of this town we should get together and find out what we can do.

Do you think drugs, booze and teen pregnancy only exist in small towns like Breckenridge? It's not just a small town problem, and it doesn't have anything to do with there being "nothing to do." I've lived in a city the size of Dallas, and while I was there I heard THOSE youth complaining that they had nothing to do. And guess what? There were still kids who smoked, drank, did drugs and had sex on the weekends.

There ARE things for kids to get involved in right here in Breckenridge. Almost every church in town has a youth group who meets every week (sometimes more) for fun and fellowship. They take trips and do missions, etc.. That is in addition to the 5th Quarter events following football games. There are 4-H and FFA programs which offer a multitude of year-round activities...and it's not just about showing livestock animals. We have an awesome library and fine arts center. The old "YMCA" is home to gymnastics, cheer and dance programs. The schools, of course, offer sports and UIL events. The city has an incredible pool open during the summer. There are youth baseball, football and soccer leagues. I've just mentioned about a dozen things that I can think about right off the top of my head, and I'm sure I could come up with more if I put a little thought into it.

My point is, there ARE things for kids to do...IF you just look around. You can offer the youth of the community every opportunity in the world to get involved, but if they want to do drink, do drugs and have sex, they will...no matter the size of the town. The effort to keep kids on the "straight and narrow" is up to parents, and it needs to start at home.

First off...the "y"is a run down building that has 2 window units as air conditioners. Yes, JayLynn does offer Gymnastics...but not every parent can afford it...it is $75 a month for 2 days a week...add that up if you have 3 kids. We do have sports, FFA, etc...but for those of us parents that do not have 9-5 jobs and can't take our kids to practice everyday it gets overwhelming. What Breckenridge needs is a community center. The Churches here are great...but they do their activities on Wednesday nights. What about the weekends? We are forced to take our kids out of town to even go see a movie. What happened to the skatepark we were supposed to get?

Leave it up to Cheryl Wade to bitch about something else that makes no sense. The only reason you want a Movie Theater is so you can drop your kids off and let someone else babysit them. Same goes for a community center. All you are going o do if they try and build one of those is bitch about higher taxes. You need to get your head out of your ass. Breck Guy just named a ton of things to do and I dont think you read a one of them. How about instead of finding something fun for the kids how about making them get a job? If they cant find a job then the parents should give them a job. Cheryl you need to quit pissing and moaning about everything. Every post you have on here is negative. Why is that?

I think the first thing that the town needs to do is REMOVE BIG MOUTH'S (CHERYL) internent connection.
Now wasn't that priceless bitch!!!!!!!!!!

LMAO...I have stated several times that I would pay the higher taxes if this town had something for our kids to do. If you see me at the bar, then you are there too now aren't you???? You guys crack me the hell up with your stupid ass remarks. You need to get your big girl/boy panties on and say this shit the next time you see me at the "bar". As for the babysitter thing...my 17 year old daughter does that for me the ONE night a week I do go out. As if that is any more of your business!! And Hata...your a dumb shit..learn how to spell before you start talking about me. I do have negative things to say about this town..and I also have positive things to say. It's called an OPINION. If you read my post and are educated enough to comprehend it...I was responding to Breck Guy's post about all the things this town has to offer...he also mentioned a great Library..seems to me that you could use a little Library time yourself!

Actually her kids are in gym..she does what she can in this town for hers. Maybe she was referring to other parents that really can't afford the crap. Not everyone just thinks about themselves.

FYI...I didn't start this topic..Breck Guy did. It's funny that this site has had very few comments on it since Jason Holt fled Breckenridge...and the one time I post something, termites come out of the woodwork to bad mouth me...three at one time...hmmm OOOOK!!!!! I am not a thief, druggie, or trouble maker...I just happen to say what I think and stand up for what is right. I won't feel bad because a few people obviously can't handle it.

Mrs. Wade is right. breckguy is right. Those all are good programs, but some people simply can't afford them. Church is great, but you have to "get" to some kids to get them to church. That doesn't mean that those people don't deserve something to do that's safe and healthy that doesn't cost money. Those are the exact kids that need something to do. I did ask about this skate park and it is still being considered. As I understand it, they are gathering information and resources to put together a proposal to ask the city for land located on city park grounds to used in conjunction with other park facilities. I understand there would be no fee to use the park. They are looking at cement contractors trying to figure out that part of the plan right now. I offered my labor, but do not know anyone in the cement business. There will be fund raisers if they get the land.
I would like to see a community center, but that takes money and personnel to run. I don't know how feasible that would be. I don't know, I don't have the answer, but I know doing nothing will not affect these kids in a positive way. If we just did something then they would see we care about our youth.

William...we understand that it takes time and money to get things done...and on behalf of people in this town with children...THANK YOU for offering your services!!! A community center is not feasible I know..but it just seems like a great idea. I love Breckenridge, and I appreciate all that our Fire Dept, and Police Officers do. I am tired of hearing about spending local money locally, etc. Give us something to spend it on and we will!! Give us a reason to keep our children in these schools and not other towns, and we will. Something obviously is not working and there needs to be changes made.
