That is sad...What happened to the firetrucks that the county was supposed to get? I guess the city's expensive ass firetruck still sat in the garage while the houses burnt down right?

Yeah, well maybe the people who live out of the city limits should take their business to other towns instead of Breckenridge. Makes me sick to think that the city has all of this fancy equipment, but let peoples' houses burn to the ground because they live 2 miles out of the city limits!

I disagree with you. The firemen are "still doing their job", I don't think there was a time when they have not done their job. Two houses were lost to this fire, if you go and look at the scene, the losses should have been greater and it was the efforts of the Breckenridge Fire Dept. and the other 7 departments that sent people and equipment to fight this fire that prevented the additional loss.

As for the issue of the trucks Breckenridge did not send, take that up with management as they write the policy on what gets sent on a fire. If you live in the city talk to the city manager and mayor. If you live outside the city then talk to you County Commisioners about fire protection in the county. Let the answer you receive from these people effect who you vote for in the next election... You DID vote in the last one right?

actually james is right....im sure there was not a fireman in the firehouse who would not have responded if the bells went off. although i dont live in breckenridge anymore, i would be at the next city council meeting voicing my opinion.

First and foremost this is coming directly from a active Breckenridge Firefighter, we have just found out that we have been in a discussion on this site. The house's in question at the lake were indeed lost but not by the lack of training or willingness to save them. We are supplied with four county trucks that are equipped to respond to all types of fires, being grass, structures, or even wrecks. These vehicles are supplied by the county of stephens and we respond to all emergencies in the county and even help outside our county if needed. These trucks are not just a structure fire trucks like other articles have related but multi use trucks, a regular pumper truck would have helped some,,but without a proper water system these trucks are useless in that enviroment. A tanker would have been the best solution and those little trucks pump just as good as the pumpers but the water supply is still the isssue not the equipment or the ability of the fireman. We hate to lose any property, land, house, outbuilding, anything, because it reflects dirrectly upon us as a department. I would ask people not to place blame where not deserved,,but remember houses burn even though several pumpers where there and numerous personnel where present, we regret any loss of property but our hands are tied without proper equipment to fire County housefires. Active firefighter Calvin Chaney.

I ahve never once said that the firefighters did not do their job. They did the best jib they could with what they had. THAT is the problem...They did not have the proper equipment. I know the firefighters here get paid very little for the jobs they do. I would never blame them personally. My mom's lakehouse burnt to the ground last year. Her house was gone no matter what kind of trucks were there. The neighbors house came withing 3 feet of burning down as well. When I called the police department to see where the trucks were...I was told that the city truck was parked in the garage and they could not send it out because it belonged to the city. Seth Shortes and Kaleb Hodges were the only 2 men out there that were hosing the grass down...I saw plenty of guys in firesuits that were standing there watching it burn.

Yes it was...and the firetrucks had to come from Wayland????? Not to mention they had run out of water several times. The wind was horrible that day...her house was already gone no matter what anyone did. I am thankful noone was hurt or killed in that fire! Seth and Kaleb saved the lady next door's house..that is certain!
