1 I have something I think you all may be interested in, those of you outside of the New Albany/Louisville area in particular. I was in Louisville a few weeks ago and decided to spend some time in New Albany. I spent half the day at the New Albany library researching and gathering what I could find about Shanda. The New Albany library was a treasure trove. I came away with approximately 115 newspaper articles from the New Albany Tribune and the Louisville Courier-Journal. These articles have coverage from 1992-2008, including several photographs I've never seen online before. As a matter of fact, I don't recall seeing very many, if any, at all of these newspaper articles online. Several articles covering Larry Loveless' arrest and trial are also included, with pictures. These stories are the original local coverage as it was happening. The New Albany Tribune material I took from the library's newspaper microfilm archive. What I have here is not the complete collection of stories. I focused my search only around key dates in the case. There is a lot more material in the microfilm archive, if anyone else would like to pick up where I left off. There are still 42 Tribune articles here, including the whole front page of their first report of the news. These articles are a great read, as they reflect how the small town dealt with something this horrific happening to one of their own. This is local flavor you didn't get anywhere else. I indexed all the Tribune articles in a text file included in the zip. In addition to the Tribune microfilm archive, New Albany's library has an incredible file of Louisville Courier-Journal articles, many written by Michael Quinlan. They have over 70 CJ articles archived in a folder labeled CRIME -- SHANDA SHARER. This file is available only by request. I went through the folder and saved its entire contents. Sadly, there are six articles listed in the index that were missing from the folder. I have those items x'd out on the index sheet scans. I have also added some articles to it that were in the folder but were not indexed. There are probably other Courier-Journal articles that were written. These are just what the library staff has cut out and saved over the years. Here is everything I brought home from New Albany in this zip file: http://bngaddis.com/shandanews.zip I know this material will really be helpful to some of you Shanda researchers here. Be sure you view the images full size. |

Thank you so much, Brian Gaddis, I have always wondered what Larry Loveless looked like.
|
|||
|
Excellent work Brian, I stayed up most the night last night reading the articles.

Those were very interesting, Brian. I'm sure that took a lot of hard work. It's too bad there was nothing about Steve Sharer's death. I guess, in all sincerity, that it wasn't newsworthy; tragic and sad, but not newsworthy.
Anyway, you did an excellent job. |

You're all welcome. I'm glad I could help.

Could you find an article about Larry Loveless being hit by a bus??? I am wondering if that is true. |

You're most welcome, all.
Sue, there are more articles in the New Albany Tribune microfilm archive if you'd like to retrieve them. I couldn't do an exhaustive search when I was there and I missed several stories. Here are some I missed that are listed in a partial index available at the library: The Tribune Obituaries January 13, 1992 (I remember looking for this but couldn't find it) Obituaries January 15, 1992 (I did not see this one) Correction to article in 15 JAN 1992 TRIBUNE January 16, 1992 Parents Sue To Make Sure Two Can't Profi...(rest of headling cut off) January 14, 1993 Parents Win Court Battle To Sto...(rest of headline cut off) January 14, 1993 Rippey Trial May Change Venues January 24, 1993 Loveless Returns To Face Sex Charges February 8, 1993 Final Defendant Pleads Guilty In Sharer (rest of headline cut off) April 19, 1993 'She's Gone Forever' August 15, 1993 Teen Killer Misses Father's Funeral December 23, 1993 Teen Convicted In Sharer Slaying Asks Fo...(rest of headline cut off) March 8, 1994 Teen-age Killer Says She's 'More Mature' May 29, 1994 Court OKs New Albany Teen's Term November 18, 1994 |

1 http://www.gopetition.com.au/petitions/justic... They need alot more signatures to get this done!! |

There is no disclosure on MySpace saying if you have every been convicted of a crime you can not have an account. She is on there to socialize with her friends.
BTW, the MySpace officials will not take your petition seriously. They don't care. It is your choice to look at her page or be friends with her. If she tries to contact you, block her. It is doing no harm her having a MySpace page. Also, I am suprised you all aren't wanting her MySpace to stay. How else could you look at her updates and talk trash about all the new things in her life?! |

Well, if I were the owner of MySpace, I would not want or allow someone who did something so appalling to have a MySpace. MySpace has every right to exclude others from its network, the same way a homeowner has every right not to let someone they don't like in their home. If the petition is successful....imagine this murderer's surprise when she logs on and finds that her MySpace is no more and that if she is to start a new account, she will have to friend request and find pics all over again. This murderer needs to know that what she did in 1992 will never go away. Her updates have been set to private. Everything is restricted to friends only. All others can see is a one-word mood update and that is it. |

1 Secondly, I didn't know how her updates were set because I don't MySpace stalk her!! She served her debt to society. I agree that her sentence was too light. However, If you are going to go after one child murderer/molester that was released from prison, go after them all. |
