Speedway closing may hamper businessman
The vote by the Dougherty County Commission to require would-be Albany Motor Speedway owner Tim Pafford to erect a 25-foot berm at the track as a condition to allow the racing of vehicles other than Legends ... " ... “I’m sitting here amazed,” [Tim] Pafford said of the deal- breaking condition placed on the track by the commission. “I probably should be mad, but I’m amazed. I’m embarrassed for Dougherty County, because if this is the way they treat businessmen, this county is in trouble. " “I guess I need to pack up my saddlebags and leave town,” [local real estate heavyweight Bob Brooks] said. “To have a place like that that provides positive recreation for so many people effectively shut down by this commission just doesn’t make business sense." ...more

Yes citizens. Your county commission is retarded.
The annual economic inflows from attendance at this track outweighs the combined effect of the Civic Center, the Wildcats, the Riverquarium and the Hilton. I am amazed that John Hayes (aka I-Hate-All-White-People) is allowed to use a spoon without supervision. In addition to his obviously severe and apparently untreated mental deficiencies, he is the equivalent of a black Grand Wizard. Art Searles is also widely known for his bigotry - if not his inept failures in business. This decision was based on the color of Brooks and Farnsworth's skin... with no regard whatsoever for the best interests of the county and its citizens. |

I agree with the old wise man. If Pafford, Brooks and Farnsworth been black, Hayes and Searles would have fallen all over themselves to keep the track open.
By the way, regarding those complaints Hayes cited about the Sunday night noise... the Raceway you closed doesn't operate on Sundays. Thats the Dragway across the street... the one the commissioners have no apparent problem with. |
|
Art Searles did not vote against the racetrack. Again, you need to check your facts, especially if you want to be an "editor." |

Also...
Commissioner Edwards, a woman of color and character, also voted in favor of the track. The racetrack is in John Hayes' district, so just about every representative will vote the voice of vocal constituents on an issue like this, regardless of color. One white commissioner supported John Hayes' motion to deny the application filed by Farnsworth. Hayes' motion failed with only two votes in favor. Does that change anything for you? Probably not. |

1 And you need to learn how to read my friend. Read it again. It doesn't say that he did. I was at the meeting and know what was said both on and off the record. After commission met, I also met with Farnsworth and Brooks. The next day I had lunch with two of the involved parties. Obviously you did not. This was another boneheaded move by the commission in the wrong direction. If the track owners or Pafford were black, the track would still be open, subsidized by the county in some fashion - and this wouldn't be an issue. |

Also...
The phrase "25 foot berm" is misleading. It would have to be more than 100 yards long AND two and a half stories high. |

LQ2M. Looks like ol "justa correction" needs to learn to correct themselves first.

some body peed in just a corrections corn flakes. maybe the wise old mans post hit a little nerve. or maybe your short commings are showing. |

Rooster, you're right. "just a correction" is a lousy handle that has a hint of pretentiousness to it and deserves a smackdown. I only meant to make one comment and be gone. If I write again, it might be with a new name.
As to the berm, I did a little calc and it would take between 281,000 and 375,000 cubic feet of dirt (depends on width of base - 75 to 100 ft) which translates into about 800 to 1000 truckloads which are a whole lotta trips to and from a place with a whole lots of fill and dirt. Plus the cost of the dirt, the placing, grading, landscaping, storm water management and on it goes. And the maintenance, whoa. And actually that calc is not really accurate since the berm would not come to a perfect peak at the top, but would need to be flattened out maybe even to get a vehicle up there so to get to 25 feet high, the base would even need to be more massive than I figured. That berm is a monster and sure isn't the answer. You called that one, Wise Old Man. I must admit to never having been to the races there. You got my interest up. My boys would like it. Sure hope the track guys and the neighbors get it together. And Rose Waters, sweet smelling rose waters, I don't eat corn flakes so you can use that bowl again any time you feel the urge, if that's what gets ya goin. |

welcome j.a.c.

Thanks for the welcome, Rooster. Glad to be here, but i gotta admit I wish I had a little sand 'tween my toes. Or a cup of cappucino from Miss Lucille's.
Not to beat the analysis into the berm, I mean, into the ground, however I had a few moments sitting on the pot (that’s what I use, Rose) and came up with these calcs for a 3-dimensional trapezoid 25 ft high with a 10ft wide top and between a 3:1 and 4:1 ratio of base to height – about 100 ft (remember the base width really needs to be in relation to a total wedge height with a pointy top since it is the slope that is important. huh?). It was fun flashing back to a little HS geometry (ok, I had help from the Internet). So you end up with about: 412,500 cubic feet (15,278 cu.yds) of dirt 1273 truck loads (assume 12 cu. yds each) If all the trucks are lined up bumper to bumper (assume a 25 ft truck), the line would stretch over 6 miles and you couldn’t squeeze a cornflake between them, Rose. Yes, ATWOM, that is what the commission request entails – a 6 mile line of trucks. Oh, by the way, to excavate that much fill would be like taking the topsoil - 1 ft (well, it wouldn’t be mostly topsoil) off almost 10 acres of land. Enough useless info … Let's go racing. |

Is this about race, racing or raciness?
I'm a racy race fan and a fan of race. Y'all need to get your attitudes together or you will be very unhappy in Albany. Do something good today. Albany is in a race against time. tick tick tick tick tick .... fizzle. fizzle is not good. |

How about doing the right thing? Delete all the libel and trash-talk from the system. You know where it’s all stashed. The Internet search beast has a long damaging tail. Please just do it, my friend.
And take the stairway to ... Didn't see PF in concert either. |

Yo old friend. If its who I think it is, they haven't accepted certain truths and can't yet distinguish friction from fiction. Sadly it sounds like someone in Smyrna might be self-medicating. Stairway to what? And who is PF? Pink Floyd? What does that have to do with anything? |

Smyr-na. Originally derived from “smear not”… up in these parts.
There’s a sign on the wall But she wants to be sure cause you know sometimes words have two meanings. Wordsmiths best not litter, but if they do, have a helpful spirit and pick up the trash before long. It’s getting late in the day. Let’s move on and laugh soon, before it gets dark. And it’s whispered that soon If we all call the tune Then the piper will lead us to reason. And a new day will dawn For those who stand long And the forests will echo with laughter. Trash doesn’t fit with the job. Who can be called objective and fair around trash? Reckless, really. If there’s a bustle in your hedgerow Don’t be alarmed now, It’s just a spring clean for the may queen… in Kentucky. You can start to fix it though. Can’t leave it lay. Yes, there are two paths you can go by But in the long run There’s still time to change the road you’re on. And it makes me wonder. Although warned, it still seems unlike you. Especially after His great reprieve to you. Who’s your piper really? Your head is humming and it won’t go In case you don’t know, The piper’s calling you to join him, Dear lady, can you hear the wind blow, And did you know Your stairway lies on the whispering wind. And as we wind on down the road Our shadows taller than our soul. There walks a lady we all know Who shines white light and wants to show How everything still turns to gold. And if you listen very hard The tune will come to you at last. When all are one and one is all And since you missed it, Set the Controls for the Heart of the Sun now … located in our Saucerful of Secrets. There will be an answer in the Whispered Words of Wisdom. And we can let it be. Li He and Me. Ooh, it makes me wonder. |
