Gain for anti-smoking movement: No puffs allowed in private vehicles

“Hospitals should have a designated area for visitors and staff members who choose to use a legal product.”

Some hospitals have banned smoking inside a person's own vehicle if it's on hospital property, a step viewed as logical by the anti-smoking movement but repugnant to its critics. via Southeast Missourian

It is time to start FIGHTING back. Mass disobedience of these kinds of bans needs to happen NOW.

i think it's ridiculous for any business (hospitals included regardless whether they technically are or are not a business) to prohibit smoking in your vehicle even while you're on their property.

however, it is their property. if you say a business owner should have the choice as to whether or not smoking is prohibited on their property, why don't you cut hospitals the same slack?

Union Hospital in Terre Haute tried to get the city to make it illegal to smoke when driving past their hospital. Employees can't go smoke in their cars and they have a loudspeaker blaring 24/7 that the entire campus is smokefree. They have no smoking signs in their parking lots. You generally have to park at least a block away and walk. That's why the sidewalk's are covered with cigarette butts. Then you inside and watch all the summo like nurses waddle around.

Where I am, there are people refusing to use certain hospitals. Sounds good to me! If they want MY money, they can furnish an atomosphere I like. Wuth the high hospital prices, they can do that.

So, will YOU be driving down to Alabama to smoke in the hospital's parking lot? Oh, you mean OTHER PEOPLE should take action.

Hey, didn't you used to say that it should be the property owner's decision about whether smoking was permitted or not? When did you change your mind about that, and start advocating civil disobedience in response to the property owner's stated policy?

Funny thing about the hospitals banning any smoking on their properties, in or out of cars; it doesn't stop people from smoking on the property.

All of the ashtrays are gone, and now more butts are in the parking lots than before the bans. I just love when I walk across the parking lot and see gazillions of butts everywhere. It just warms the cockles of my heart.

It just goes to show, be careful what you wish for. To me it's a sign of DEFIANCE,and I love it.

If the property owners don't want to see the butts, then they should return the ashtrays. Yes indeedy, it truly does warm the cockles of my heart.

Besides, I bet it just thoroughly p!sses off the highly paid tobacco control official at the hospital (yes, there is one). That warms the cockles of my heart even more.

nothing like going out in a fiery ball of sh1t, eh?

"see this land? this is where we fought! this is where we flung our butts in protest! it is also where we shot ourselves in the foot as we gave cause for further legislation to be acted against us."

so after you've lost *all* your public rights to smoke, go for a brisk walk around town and look at the trashy mess you made of nature. then ask yourself if it was worth it... if there could have been a better way to get your message across.

as freedom would say:

so sad....

I DON'T throw butts on the ground there, or anywhere else for that matter. I DON'T even smoke on the property. I WORK there. Imbecile!

i didn't say you did either of those things. i was merely pointing out that you would stand atop the piles of butts with your leg hiked up in the captain morgan pose while expressing unfathomable pride in the fact that your little army of jerkoffs were accountable for such a blatent pie in the face of nature and all its beauty. and for what? so you could lose on purpose by showing everyone else what a bunch of irresponsible idiotwits you all are?

personally, if i was a smokers' rights fundamentalist, i'd be all like, "damn it, guys, knock that crap off! stop throwing butts everywhere because you're going to ruin my right to smoke!"

but that's just me, though. it's obvious you condone other methods.

I'm kind of drawing a blank here, who exactly does own a hospital?

Is any of the taxes a smoker pays going to this hospital?

I think this getting pretty extreme, as you agreed.

The problem I have with it, is your car is your property and they're telling you what to do in your property.

It just seems to me that the next "progressive" step will be to pick and choose whoever they want to treat, which has already happened in a couple of cases.

If you can tell me who does own the hospital I might be able to form a better opinion.

see this link:

http://www.americanhospitals.com/hospitals/ho...

as i was reading under the section headed "Nonprofit or For-Profit Hospitals", the paragraphs defining voluntary and propriety hospitals seemed to clear this issue up.

but regardless even if the hospital classifies as government-supported, it's still property that's owned by a singular entity. whether or not any of your tax money goes into the upkeep of the hospital is irrelevant. someone owns the land it's on. they bought it with their money. they can set the rules.

but your property is on their property. stepping into your vehicle and closing the door doesn't enclose you some forcefield wherein you're protected from the various rules and regulations of the outside world. why don't you go to some non-smoking establishment, light up, and then say, "i should be able to smoke because i am in the clothes that i own"?

hospitals are owned. the land is owned. they can set the rules on the property they pay taxes on.
