Why is selling subscriptions a jailable offence while multiple traffic violations are a releasable on an unsecured bond offence?

Celina Valenzuela, 18, of the 200 block of Blomquist, Bakersfield, Calif., was arrested for alleged soliciting without a license after she was allegedly found going door-to-door selling magazine subscriptions. Valenzuela was incarcerated at the Otero County Detention Center in lieu of bond pending her appearance in Municipal Court.

Warren E. Christensen, 39, of the 400 block of Bonnell, was arrested pursuant to a traffic stop for alleged DWI, driving while revoked and no proof of insurance. Christensen was issued a citation for alleged display of current valid license plate. Christensen was released on an unsecured bond pending his appearance in Municipal Court

They should use common sense, tell them they cannot sell door to door without a permit and to cease and desist. If they get caught again, then arrest them. Welcome to the Friendliest place on earth!

So now the Alamo P.D. is arresting 18 year old girls for selling door-to-door magazine subscriptions. Can you say
"overkill"? Everyday I see people running red lights (try watching the light change at Indian Wells and Whitesands Blvd and odds are you'll see several people run that light in just a few minutes of watching).Everyday I see people speeding down Whitesands Blvd (at least 10mph over). Is an 18 year old girl really more of a menace to our community than these drivers? I think not. "The Friendliest Place in the World" I think not.

The reason this girl was arrested is because there has been a string of people selling fake magazine subscriptions from door to door in Las Cruces and now its moved to Alamogordo. They come by your house saying they are in some sort of competition for a trip to Hawaii or whatever and sell you FAKE subscripions and take off with your money. Some people who have denied them have then been threatened or intimidated by the seller. THAT is more than likely the cause why this person was arrested. APD is trying to protect you from being shamboozled by these kids from California. Get over it.

There was a story on KOAT news tonight about scammers going door-to-door claiming to be selling magazine subscriptions to earn prizes for their schools. When asked to show their permits, SURPRISE...there is none.

There was a couple "magazine salesmen" that were accused of murdering a couple in Albuquerque last year.

I had a 16 yr. come to my door selling magazines to win scholarship. After she finished her pitch, I refuse subscription and she rolled her eyes and shook her head and walked away very angry.

The girl was arrested for was arrested for alleged soliciting without a license after she was allegedly found going door-to-door selling magazine subscriptions.

The article does not say anything about selling FAKE subscriptions, taking off with your money, anyone threatened or intimidated by the seller nor that any of these reasons are the likely cause why this person was arrested.

Where did you get all this information from?

If she doesn't have a license, it's obvious not legitimate.

You are assuming it's not legitimate, which is fine and I don't really blame you, but they have also arrested folks who set up on the side of the road to sell stuff for not having a license. It's a little crazy if you ask me.

Why is it crazy to you? They sell shoddy goods and don't have to pay taxes, insurance, or for a store front. It's not crazy, it's unfair for them to sell crap illegally whenever small shop owners are following the laws.

The arresting part is what's crazy. You realize you end up paying for the incarceration right?

Oh and by the way then they should also arrest the boy scouts, american cancer society, ball clubs and every other civic organization that has a car wash, bake sale etc. Same principle. The only requirement is to go down to city hall and buy a piece of paper that says you can legally sell your crap in town.

I don't see a civic organization that is doing fund raising as the same.

I guess you don't see the harm and I can see that it's not fair to the small shop owner that has been paying for his business license, his insurance, his taxes, etc.
