It doesn't take a genius to see that if a city buys enough water rights from surrounding rural areas, those rural areas and smaller towns won't have enough water to survive. Greed and selfishness of the solely capitalistic free-market system.

Denise, while I agree that the city is acting very irresponsively and in a monopolistic manner, I do not see that "private enterprise" is even involved...Selfishness has gotten such a bad rap in our society, that we now seek to blame others for our shortcomings...e.g. to have personal responsibility there has to be an element of selfishness...Capitalism and the free market are the only ways to bring the most people out of poverty...e.g. the recently elected president of a west African country (I forget the country) was quoted as saying when the USA offered it an aid package "I do not want your aid, I'd rather have your trade"...I define capitalism as a voluntary, uncoerced interaction between two people...thus, I do not see anything wrong with capitalism, per se...I think our current form of "capitalism" is so corrupted by government involvement (taxation, regulations, etc.) that it results in the greed you are alluding to...Save Capitalism from the Capitalists!!!

The Mayor and city council of Alamogordo are in office to serve the need's and interest's of Alamogordo. It is up to the residents and city officials of Tularosa to protect the needs and interests of Tularosa.

If the notice was posted, it's there own fault for not reading it and raising the alarm.

I hate to tell you this but not everyone reads the ADN. The joke around these parts is the only reason people even look at the ADN is to see who passed away. It is difficult to comprehend how some people keep spinning the situation in favor of the aggressor, Alamogordo, by blaming others and not holding the parties who are really responsible for their action. It's like saying Jeff Dommer WAS a good neighbor.

Alamogordo still refuses the fact that we have a limited supply of water. The city keeps building with no idea where the water is going to come from.

Truth is , there is plenty of water, we just have to allocate it properly, and I would let the free market allocate it!...we also have to privatize the desalination plant (done in the rest of the world), and besides, we get a significant amount of drinking water from WalMart, Blue Camel, Culligan, and other such places...

Mayor, we have a dire need of city water run to Alamogordo North. My home has been on KC road for 20 years. It is ridiculous that we have to rely on a well like we are in a secluded or remote area. The city water is up at Florida, less than 1/2 mile from myself and my neighbors. Bring the water pipe down our road and we will pay for the meter boxes. Also, you do need to set up watering limitations. Such as no watering between 10am and 4pm all summer. And start up small incentives for people to cement or rock in their yards.

Not enough water, but the new house building continues to no end while putting people into tiers and making them pay dearly for using water.

My family of 2 adults use between 295 and 415 gallons of water per month based on the water meter reading and our water bill every month..
We do not waste water, and we do not wash cars at the house, i take a short shower, and do large loads of laundry, and minimal yard watering, we also buy purified water (5 gal container) every week for drinking from a water dispenser machine's in town.
Water will become a major issue soon, I see a city pushing more water conservation, and building more house's with better water saving devices are a plus.
Question's.
1. Will Alamogordo accept Toilet water to tap water that has been processed and certified safe??
2. Blackish water technology is needed, Should more solar power plants be build to provide energy for that facility on a large enough scale to provide this city it future water needs?
3. Should growth be slowed to save water.

This community pushes conservation of water by limiting our usage to the assigned watering days and times and affecting our pocketbook when we use water with the tier system, but they don't want to stop the building of residences because the City makes claims about jobs it creates, and of course it keeps some contractors in business like the French Brother who are currently building in quite a few locations in the City without limit. On Florida the City changed the zoning from single family to multi-family allowing the French Brothers to build more homes in less space which means more water to be used by more people. They also want to put a park in there somewhere for a play area...more water. Then another contractor saw this good deal go through and wants to do the same by the golf course area off Hamilton Road so he wants his property to go from single family to multi...more water. This is an old issue and the City keeps the money rolling while water a precious resource is scarce. They talk out both sides of their mouth by doing this. They force people into their rules yet they don't change a thing. The changing of the zoning is another issue. The city changes zoning in parts of the city while leaving the residents in those areas out of really having any say in the decision for the reasons the city finds important. Water no issue here as the building continues.

Water no issue here as the building continues. I agree pretty much with you on these issues. If someone wants to use more water than allowed, they pay more, which can effect lower income people when the tier prices go up for the lowest level.. I have a hard time with benefit car washes in town, Do they pay more for water from these location of business's? I have a hard time when local businesses wash down their parking spots with water vice sweeping them with a push broom. Water is a major deal here, and we cannot always rely on wet rainy season to fill the mountain runoff's.
