Have you been to the post office lately?

Full story: Alamogordo Daily News

I go daily to the Alamogordo post office. I have for years. Up until recently, I enjoyed doing business at the post office, but not anymore.

And to think people want our government to run health care!! Our MVD is not much better. Anytime you have people that have no concern about providing quality customer service you get poor service. Where else are you going to go to get your license or mail your package.

You can mail your packages at that shipping place next to the Winners Circle or that place across from the Granada shopping center on 1st street. Try those places out.

there are several places around town that you can mail packages from. You even have a choice of USPS, Fedex or UPS. they give you a choice. Sure beats the service and wasting your time at the PO.

Oh I couldn't agree with you more. My 77 year old mother went in to get her passport and was treated horribly. She stood in line for nearly an hour and then when she got up to the window she was told the people that do passports were out for the day.

I tried to do a change of address online recently, as they tell you to, and got all the way through to the end of the process before it told me I couldn't change to a PO Box online (other people have told me they had the same problem, while others say they have been able to). I went in to the PO to get forms, and they were out. Another woman was waiting in the very long line for the same thing, and the busy guy at the little side counter said to just ring the service bell until someone came up.

No one would, so he actually got on the telephone by his station and CALLED the back room. Very grumpy lady came up and grudgingly gave us our forms, arguing that it "should have" worked online - well, did she think we were lying, and we just came in for the sheer time-wasting joy of it?

Two weeks later, only some of my mail is being forwarded, and my old mail carrier is insisting my name is not on her list, even though I got the confirmation letter from the PO!

Poor customer service is not limited to government agencies. We just seem to get more enjoyment beating up on civil service employees. Like most business when the money is short they start cutting staff. Since moving here I have had terrible service with home repair and remodeling contractors, car repairs etc. Wal-Mart to me has written the book on cruddy customer service.

These "civil servants" are horrid and soul-less people. They clinch their jaws just to say thank you. I'm self employed, pay ungodly taxes like everyone else but I have no health care, I do not get overtime, sick leave, comp time or time and a half. I work hard just like most. We the public deserve better than to be treated like this. We the people give civil servants health care, overtime, paid sick time and they have a damn secure job. They have nothing to worry about on the job other than their co workers making more and doing less than they. Ask one of them to quit and get a real job? We treat gov't workers way too good to be treated in a hateful manner. But to be a devil's advocate, Alamogordians are not the nicest people. So, how do we turn this around?

The Post Office took its present form in 1970 when President Nixon replaced the cabinet-level Post Office Department with the independent United States Postal Service. It now functions as a corporation without the help of tax money and that is the source of "not enough personnel".

Companies can fix their customer service. I have always been able to get poor service fixed by taking it to a higher level. Our Government run agency that option very seldom works. Our tax dollars pay for USPS and MVD. I have seen that these workers have very little to fear about customer complaints as nothing generally happens when complaints are lodge. Next time watch at the Post office and see how many times an employee will interrupt a customer transactions.

I always end up getting someone else's mail, or don't even get mine. I have filled out address change cards, gone into the post office and spoke to the postmaster, and called all of the utility companies to be sure that our address is correct in the system. I think that we have a different mail carrier everyday. Sometimes I get my bills, sometimes I don't. But the postmaster says that their is nothing that can do about it. I also found out from the utility companies that my meters are read on the 6th of the month and that I should have my bills in my mailbox on the 11th of each month. Last month my bills did not arrive till 10 days after the arrival date. So now I worry that I won't even get my mail in time to pay my bills. The mail service and postal service is just horrible.

If it weren't for my very alert and caring regular mail carrier, I believe Billy is his name, there are a number of times I would not have received mail that was supposed to be forwarded to me, in a timely manner. The forwarding system - even when it does work - stinks! There was one time when we were expecting checks - nine of them cut and mailed on exactly the same day. Four arrived at the new address within days of being mailed from Texas because he had caught them in time. The others took an entire 2 MORE WEEKS because they went through the forwading system! When we asked at the PO why we got some and not the others we were treated like imbeciles.

All these complaints are a preview of what will happen with our health care if these clowns in Washington pass this ungodly health bill that our wonderful President is pushing down our throats. Try to find a doctor for emergencies after the Socialists get their way - - - - - -

The government cannot run anything within a profit without raising the cost and reducing services.
We have seen this for many decades, AMTRAK is a prime example, Federal payment to local air carriers to operate routes is another, health care is next, followed by cliomate control, immigration, legalizing weed, allowing gays to openly serve in the military, and giving Iran Nuclear technology to control the middle east and the world oil. Wake up people, vote for reducing government in your lives.

You are correct. They couldn't even run a cat house in Nevada and make a profit.

E-mail, you can do all of this online, many other "mail" stores which also provide UPS & Fed-Ex, stamps, passports (Walgreens) why would anyone need to go inside of the post office? I haven't been inside of the post office for years...That is why no one works there! This is why print is dying as well...The internet :)

The other day I was at the post office and there was one window open and a line. I was prepared to wait. The lady at the window did not have zip codes on her mail and the man at the window was looking them up for her. One he could not find so she started guessing numbers for him to put into the computer. I was thinking customer service is better when you are prepared. Why would you take mail without zip codes? It is not like zip codes are something new. In fairness to the man at the window he was patient and when the lady left she was shouting, it is not my fault! Seems to me it was her fault for not being prepared.
