This is a shame on the city of Alameda. All they are worried about is their retirements and afraid to do anything. If this had been one of their own they would have done something. How can they look themselves in the mirror in the morning and even accept their paychecks.

I hope this news story goes national and the fire chief resigns. Why are the people of Alameda paying their salaries? I heard that when volunteers offered to help the police department told them to stay out of it. But you can bet if it was a fireman's child or a policeman's child, something would have been done. The whole story is very disgusting.

People are idiots. You can't have it both ways. If you want government always in a state of readiness to intervene when stupid people do things to them selves, you can expect to kiss your freedom good bye. You want to sue government every time an idiot does something to their self, you should welcom high prices, high taxes and government interference.

Like the lady who won a million dollars by suing McDonalds after spilled hot coffee on herself while trying to drink coffee and drive at the same time, she did it to her self as Zack did it to him self. His intent was not really appearant unless he left a not to told someone what he was going to do just before he did it. I can't even remember of hearing about someone committing suicide by wading into shallow water where you can still touch bottom. Never heard of it. Why didn't he jump off dock or pier? Why didn't he jump off a bridge? It would have been much quicker and his intent would have been obvious to those around him.
Zack did it to him self. Parasitic opportunists should not be allowed to profit at tax payer's expense by suing the government when individuals do stupid or irrational things to themselves.
Zack and his parents have to take responsibility for what Zack did; not the emergency responders. Zack's parents should have took him to swimming lessons when he was a kid. It would have been harder for him to drown him self if he knew how to swim. The body knows what to do when it wants oxygen.
There is no excuse for Zack's parents for not taking him to swimming lessons when he was a kid. California had many free and cheap swimming classes. I know because my parents took me those swimming classes when I was a kid. It's Zack's parents fault that they did NOT take him to learn how to swim while he was a kid.
Own the responsibility Dolores Berry. Zack could not have drowned him self if you took him to swimming lessons.
