"Deputies checked 122 vehicles, which resulted in three operating under the influence arrests; seven driving under suspension; four warrant arrests; five open container citations; one possession of marijuana arrest; two drug paraphernalia citations; four miscellaneous citations; and four towed vehicles."

The only problem I have is with the miscellaneous citations. Everything else is justified.

I am sure happy to see that illegal searches are alive and well in Summit county...

That money would be much better suited by investing in better and safer public transportation. If people had other viable options to getting around while intoxicated, the number of OVI would decrease.

Unreal.

An OVI checkpoint produces more non-OVI arrests than OVI arrests.

What's wrong with this picture?

Unreasonable.
Search.
Seizure.
Still do not like

this stops are totally unconstitutional and a direct result of the republican police state...let's hope voters who are interested can stop bush from his invasion of our privacy even as he invades other countries...no one is safe if you don't belong to the country club of cheney and rumsfield

Let's see, 3 OVI arrests on 122 vehicles stopped. If my math is correct, that is a 2.46% success rate, which is higher than the normal average of 0.41% for DUI checkpoints. Then again, I'll bet they would have gotten even more if they would have used targeted enforcement patrols making suspicion-based stops.

And you would know this how? What were the misc. citations for? Could have been driving without a child in a proper child safety seat. Isn't that justified. if they pull you over, any violation is fair game. Why should an OVI check point be different?

Thank you APD. I left Akron in Feb. for a reason. The crime rate. Checkpoints like this one are what make and keep the neighborhoods safe. If more of them had been done in the past I might not have moved. Keep up the good work.

And here I thought DUI checkpoints were to check for impaired drivers. The multiple other arrests indicate the deputies do a lot more than check sobriey. It sounds like a full blown vehicle search to me!

The checkpoint should be for driver's licenses. There are way too many people out there driving without valid licenses. If they don't have a valid license, then they usually don't have insurance. Guess who's paying for all of those driving without insurance?

Probably expired registration or no seat belt. Everyday I see cars with expired registrations, sometimes by more than a year.

What the CRAP! Over one-hundred people stopped and little misdemeanor charges. CMON Summit County and APD. Get real. Don't you have anything better to do besides harass citizens over petty stuff. That's how petty this City and State is. WOW! What BIGGG Arrests.

"All it takes for evil to prevail is for good men to stand back and do nothing." I don't know the original author of that quote, but it certainly rings true here. I have not the slightest doubt that even though the courts have allowed these OVI checkpoints, they are not truly constitutional. It is unreasonable search and seizure, no doubt. And to "Left the Ghetto," who thinks this makes neighborhoods safer, we get a lot more bang for our buck when the police officers and deputies are patrolling the streets than when they are sitting on a street pulling over every vehicle that comes along. People in 122 VEHICLES, probably closer to 200 PEOPLE in all, were inconvenienced. I calculate that 87 PERCENT of them were innocent. Wasting your and my tax dollars, folks!
