How could Bob Dyer make such a big mistake? All of us knew you needed to supply the SS# to register your newly purchased car ot truck. The ABJ sure didn't verify it's source on this article. Sometimes I think Dyer is trying to get people excited at the risk of going over the top wrong.

mr dyers biggest mistake was assuming that the state knew what it was doing. i made that mistake once. took me three tries with the dmv to get an address change. i could have lost my drivers license if insurance veification mail missed me. it will take years for strickland to clean up tafts mess.

His mistake was asking the AG Office. After Daffy Marc Dann got done with it, they can only answer questions about sexual harrassement and the like I guess.

An excellent example of the high quality reporting we in the greater Akron area have gotten used to being provided by Hacksaw Bob.

Great job.

And a heartfelt apology, once again!!!

WHY would you think a SSN wasn't required to purchase a car? That is protection agains the property you have just purchased. In any event your car is stolen or damaged how can you show proof that the car is yours and not that person you have beefing with or just being an ass against? I t's for your own safety and if it's yours then it's yours...

The question was why the dealer needed the SS number, not that the DMV neded it. YOU try asking those same questions to all the government offices he contacted and see how many different answers you get. Anything's goodnuff for govment work. Carry on, Bob.

Bob Any idea on what the hell is going on in the world? Hey at least you know where the pot holes are. Here is an idea-call a car dealership when you need information on what should be brought in when buying a car. I am sure that they will call you when looking for that giant pot hole in the road! Seriously Bob, you really do a great job on those pot hole finds. Keep up the great work and stay away from the real issues of the world._ Kind of like when you were a kid-you can play but you don't really count!

I am an American with a foreign wife (she does not
live in USA & can't get a S.S. number) Does this
mean that a foreign person cannot purchase an auto
in Ohio? They can buy the Empire State Building,
but still can't purchase a car in Ohio? silly
rule...

Three different agencies gave the guy incorrect information: the BMV, the attorney general and the local dealer's association. What's the guy supposed to do when the official spokesmen give him the wrong answers?

and not an update. Given the snootiness of the original article, an apology as well.

Bob writes in such a way that he comes off as the end all be all information source on all things (especially roadways).

If that is the way you want to be perceived, that is fine, but be damn sure you are 100% correct or you come off looking like an a$$.
