Why were they riding in the road to start with? It is illegal to ride ATV or Dirt bikes in the road.

kids race around without helmets on Chancefford Twp roads daily and the cops never do a darn thing to stop it. 90% of the ATV's I see are ridden illegally, unregistered and most likely uninsured as well. Half acre Harrys buy these mechanized babysitters for their kids, totally ignoring their responsibility to train their kids to drive them responsibly and to make sure the kids have a LEGAL place to run them.

Pa law provides that the owner of the ATV is financially liable for the negligent operation of his machine by whomever is operating it.

If a parent drives DUI with a kid in the car, it is child endangerment, when they knowingly let an untrained irresponsible kid run loose illegally on the road ways on an ATV, it is no less serious a crime. If a licensed teen drives like an idiot on the road in a car and kills someone the DA is is chomping at the bit to bring criminal charges. Lets see if the DA's office even notices this travesty.

"For the families and friends sake....please keep your opinions to your self" ????

get real! More families will have to suffer through similar instances unless the public is made aware of how IGNORANT AND STUPID it is to let untrained kids ride dangerous machines on the road. Heck we require that hunters take safety courses. Kids are supposed to wear helmets and take ATV safety courses. There are ages for operation of ATV's. If they were out playing with a rifle or dynamite, folks would be screaming. ATV's are not much different in the hands of irresponsible teens.

Do you expect the police to chase them? That's pointless, since they just drive off into the woods, or crash and die. No winners in that circumstance.

You have State Police coverage in Cnaceford Twp. what do you expect? You don't pay any extra taxes for police like many other York County property owners who pay for municipal police service. I'm more than happy to pay my township tax for municipal police, when I call them they show up and are concerned about what's going on in the Township (West Manheim).

Aren't we missing the finality of the situation. You can have a million opinions and it won't change the facts. We would do better to send condolences to the friends and families of this tragic accident. If you have children or can remember when you were a child you might bite your tongues and not be so critical of two young people who didn't purposely set out to be beaten verbally by strangers. Please send prayers and heartfelt concern to these girls families and friends! They will surely need it in the days to come.

How dare you! You insensitive Bast---! One question- what's it like to not have a heart? This girl lost her life- can you just imagine what her parents and the friends' parents that she was with; what they are going thru right now? Not to mention that she was a school student with many friends that are also coping with a great loss right now! How do you know for sure that they were riding in the road? Just because the ATV was found in the road, doesn't mean that they were riding on the road. To fill you in, they were actually JUST dropped off the bus. Right now isn't the time to point a finger at everything they did wrong and make it look like they deserved what happened! As any normal person would do, you offer your condolenses and simpathize with the community!! Try to put yourself in someone elses shoes...how would you take it, if you just lost a daughter-granddaughter-sister- cousin-FRIEND...? I'm sure you wouldn't be thinking about why they were riding on the road!

My prayers and condolences go to the families, school friends, love ones and community that suffer such a terrible loss of life. Also to the girl that is still in the hospital, may God give her healing both in body and spirit. We need to come together at a time like this and support one another. Not fight and yell about what could have been. Deal with that at a later date. Right now it's about them and their families. Try to respect them and one another. Life is too short.
