Change Once Someone Dies

Some kid here will die in the future from fireworks - then and only then will our lawmakers do something. Sad, but true.

It's an attention thing. The same guys with the bombs are the same twenty-something year old insecure mutts with the boom-boom stereos, the gigantic chrome rims on a P.O.S. lowered 80's Honda with the Kau Inoa bumper sticker, riding around trying to pick up 14 year old girls.

coachrandy wrote: illegal firwork users = terrorists? are you kidding? get a grip of reality. how can you compare what is happening in afghanistan, iraq, and yemen with honolulu? i don't think these illegal users targeted buildings, airlines, and other places where innocent americans gather. Yup, it's a totally bad analogy, and disrespectful to those who actually put their lives on the line fighting terrorism.

Youre Selfish wrote: Pay, you are the selfish one. There is a minority of poeople that don't like fireworks that are calling for an outright ban. The rest of us, the majority, like them and want to keep them. Our legislators are among them. You don't believe this? Just look around at the proliferation of fireworks. They are everywhere. That shows a majority. So you are the selfish one for wanting to deny this enjoyment to the majority of us. The pollution you mention lasts a few hours, one or two nights a year. Try a little tolerance for those that believe other than the way you do. You don't have to stay inside very year. You can go to a mall, go to a movie, go to a restaurant, etc. You CHOOSE to huddle inside. Don't blame the rest of us. <quoted text> We are talking about peoples health. Not being able to breath is not funny or amusing. It is difficult to comprehend just how uncaring and self-centered people are. The smoke and noise are overwhelming!

Hmmmm....
...belly aching from the immigrants from the west....
...complaining about the immigrants from the east and their rituals of making "big noise."
I recall having a pack of firecrackers in my front right pocket.
As I was throwing the firecracker, after lighting it with a punk (Punk), I somehow managed to light the string of firecrackers in my pocket.
Used to have the Duck brand and the Baby firecrackers.
Though it was not the Duck brand (known to generate a powerful explosive force with a commensurate noise amplifying that blast), the sucker still hurt.
To resolve this fireworks versus no fireworks dispute, may I suggest a WWF street brawl on the street, maybe.

...fire works...so why not just light 'em on fire...and be done with it.

Fireworks are beautiful to watch.
But I am shocked by the insensitivity of fireworks aficionados for the suffering they cause for asthmatics.
And why should we tolerate fireworks that threaten to blind pedestrians walking down the wrong street on New Year's Eve?

patricia wrote: This is great, just like I wrote in the past day or so in this paper. Why is it only the hilton hawaiian village hotel can blow up fireworks 52 times a year? We all know the answer. The Hilton applies for a "standing permit" to do their Friday night fireworks. But the Honolulu Fire Department favors a total ban on fireworks. Only after fireworks cause a shocking injury maybe to a tourist or after fireworks spark a major fire, s another blogger suggested, then we'll get a hardcore ban.

Stann "Dr Hypnos" Reiziss is a Kailua snot that dislikes everything. He haunts social events to get his name out there, Kailua Neighborhood Board meetings to complain about anything and everything, is anti-everything including B&Bs yet is part owner of a Kailua B&B. Wow, go figure that one out. Ban Stann. Keep the fireworks. Next time Stann, take the Kamaka off the shelf on 12/30. You don't deserve a Kamaka uke anyways. You're a recent transplant from the midwest. A flugelhorn or clarinet would suit you better.

Live here a long time. Done the fireworks thing since I was a kid. But we never had those that sounded like artillery shells and we only did fireworks New Year's Eve. Now we have these bombs going off starting in November. What use to be 'local' fun has become something that terrorizes in the name of local culture. Bottom line, it scares people. A lot of people. Fireworks use to be for enjoyment but not anymore. It's about the illegal and the viceral thrill of power by scaring others. That's terrorism!!! If we can't control the excess; then ban it; all of it.
