This is such a tragedy. But I know that road and remember it well. I was traveling with my daughter from Gold Beach to Grants Pass and the map we had, a current Oregon State Map, showed the road plainly. It showed only about 30 miles versus 140 miles going the southern route. The weather was bad and it took us over an hour and was very dangerous. The most dangerous trip I've ever made. I often wondered why it was shown so clearly on the map and that no signs posted the danger, and it not being maintained.
