Former Washington County Sheriff Ron England is running for County Clerk in 2010. Many voters are asking the question will he hire his wife, daughter and son in law. When he was Sheriff his office was riddled with family as staff. I think Washington County Commissioners should step up and be ethical in setting up new standards as many counties in Tennessee are now doing. Of course England is currently a Commissioner now and with many sitting on current commission I do not see a true ethics change coming. Voters need to ask these questions in next years election. REMEMBER ITS YOUR TAX DOLLARS BEING SPENT-YOU DESERVE ANSWERS.

I think Ron England's excellent record for voting as a commissioner speaks for itself. He is one of the few commissioners who make decisions based on what is best for the citizens and not for his friends, family or business aquaintances. (Example....the failed Wheel tax that Ron voted against). Look at some of the current commissioners and you will find they are nothing more than crafty business people laying plans to further their own interests, regardless of the negative impact on the citizens. Ron England is the only commissioner I have met who will take the time to actually have a conversation with a person without trying to act a head taller than they are.

Ron England will be no more open to nepotism than anyone else considering the position. Nepotism is abundant in any situation concerning politics and jobs. That doesn't make it right, but it has and will exist. I'd rather have a down to earth individual such as Ron England in the position instead of a career snob.

very true but I wish we could do as Knox County did and set up a 2 term limit for any elected County office holder including Commissioners. Commissioners cannot work for County either nor can any office holder have family members hired.

The man (and I use the term with laughter) was as corrupt a Sheriff as we've ever had. That's saying something.

Putting him in charge of any of the public's money would be like opening the safe to the bank and inviting the criminal in to help themselves. Provided there was any left after he got a hold of it.

We need a professional with integrity in the post not a J.C. homerboy.

I agree on any and all officials if it is good for the President, it is good for all OFFICIALS, they get way to comfortable and they stop feeling obligated to do their real job. They stop appreciating.

I'm appalled that anyone would impugn the reputation of such fine former officer of the law.
As Sheriff he rarely stole money or committed high crimes and misdemeanors and he would do the same if elected again.

there will be more to enter-we need a person to committ on basis of being qualified. Hyatt is close to Matthew Hill through the Norteast tn Republicans who support Hill, Ramsey and Mumpower. Thees guys started out with good intentions but now are just as bad as the former good ole boy circuit. Example is Kenneth Hill being appointed trc director
(by the way he still holds position of committeeman for Sullivan County). Mumpower is an embarrassment to party and is wasteful with travel expenses which taxpayers foot the bill. WE NEED TRULY HONEST PEOPLE FOR THE PEOPLE.

Scott Hyatt is a Vice Pres of the Northeast Tennessee Republicans and is very active. I don't think that he is biased toward any specific Republican Lawmaker. He has several different ones at their meeting all the time [as long as they are Republicans].

I know him as being a good manager of people, especially in all the businesses that he has managed.

We expect Sheriffs to NEVER steal money or commit high crimes and misdemeanors, and we expect that of anyone, regardless of the number of times they might be re-elected.

I'm appalled that anyone who has ever stolen money, committed high crimes or misdemeanours, could be elected in the first place.
