What about Meridan Waste Service? I pay 41.25 for 3 months, 1 day a week, service. This rate includes a new $1 per month cost of fuel & oil increase. I think this company has the best value in Florissant. Thank you

I am not sure where you live....but Meridian will be adding to our bills by July 1....because the county ord that requires weekly recycle and 2 a year bulk pick-up. I think they will be raising another $4 a month...so our bill will be $53.25. The county is getting bids lower than anyone else is charging...with more services included.$11.60 a month for one area($34.80 for 3 months), and $12.XX a month for the next 3 areas (less than $38 for 3 months). I wish Florissant would consider doing the same thing if it saves that much money. Does anyone know if they are even considering?

Here is a web site BLOG offering many angles to the recent change in County Ordinance requiring changes on the trash/recycle issue.

The county contracts include: once a week trash pickup, once a week curbside recycling (all items can be mixed in one container, and county is supplying free container) and 2 times a year they do a curbside "bulk item" pickup. No fuel surcharges allowed. The only extra is for yardwaste, which can be quarterly, and cart rental, if you want it.

You know this is odd. I just called them on Monday and they quoted me the following prices:

$15.25/mo including Trash Totes (I have 2)
$14.00/mo lawn waste (Could be $11 with a year commitment)
$6.00/mo Recycling (I didn't take)

That is $87.75 and they said nothing about any paperwork fee. So they better not charge it.

By the way, Meridian quoted me:

$13.75/mo trash
$4.00/mo each tote
$12.00/mo yard waste
$5.00/mo recycling (again optional)

That's $77.25 without totes.

End of PSA :-)

I live in unincorporated St. Louis County and Meridian Waste does a good job of dumping our recycle container. There may be politics at play here being that you live in Florissant and the current trash hauling district disputes in court.

http://subdivisiontrustees.blogspot.com/

Has Florissant city hall hinted at a preferred hauler yet? Is Florissant staying neutral in the current trash hauler dispute with St. Louis County?
I would contact Councilman Mike O'Mara and let him know of your problem. It seems he and the mayor had a closed door meeting about this issue some time back. Anyone know the outcome? I wonder if the mayor was granted a political favor to stay out of dispute since he has since become quite on the issue.

It is hard to imagine since few if any of us has ever lived in China but try to imagine what China would be like if every family there had a car for each family member. Or if each person in China had a lifestyle like most Americans or even like most Europeans.

As more and more people are forced into a space of a set size the pressures on the people and the systems that support them become more strained.

Trash is just the beginning. But the reason you are seeing problems there first is due to the large volume of refuse each American generates.
Do a little math.

Each home with one filled trash can per week is generating about 10 cu. ft. of trash per week.(That is being conservative.)

Multiply that by the number of homes and the amount of solid waste is staggering. As the population grows and open land becomes more valuable, the cost of disposing of the waste will go up.

Some argue that we have plenty of space for landfills but even if that is true, those who own that land and chose to let it be used as a landfill will be able to ask more for that service.

People always seem amazed when China id ahead of us in "green" technologies or activities but they are just responding to their over-crowded situation.

Just watch the countries with large populations to see what problems we will face in the future.

Before you go praising China with being GREEN, maybe you should do a little more research..........

China is adding a new coal burning power plant almost weekly, not to mention all the manufacturing they have taken from countries like the USA.

Environmental, health and saftey, and human conditions in most of the work force is pathetic at best. Child and woman labor are next to work camps. That is why they take all the work from the US.

China is quickly becoming the largest oil useing country in the world. If China hasn't already surpassed the US, it will soon. This not only creates more polution, but it also weakens our country as a user of world wide oil.

When China, and other third world countries start complying with the same environmental codes, as well as health and safety, and human codes, then we can compare.
