Now instead of talking about the Huddle House and the gillis's, can we please talk about why every building in soperton looks like THE WILD WILD WEST??? The town should be named TOOMBSTONE! It is dead as it can be. Why are all the stores in soperton failing.... Think about that. If noone can keep a single store open in soperton - why do people bash the huddle house for having bad year or so? I have seen many stores in soperton fail within a 5 month period....

Amazing how we ignore what our town looks like.

Not ignoring, but who can make the building owners (Morings/Petersons) fix their buildings up? If they don't care how they look, then what are we to do? DuBose Porter is running for Governor (ha,ha) and he doesn't care that the sign on his business is barely readable!

I care how downtown looks, and my friends care how downtown looks, but when you don't have zoning of any kind, then you have stripped down vehicles being worked on right in the middle of town!

I commend our businesses in town who do care and work hard to keep their properties looking nice, then you got those who don't care, who ruin it all for everyone!

I agree. Just wish we could get it looking nicer. That is all. It has potential.

Soperton has loads of potential. Two major highways run right through the middle of town. We should have all kinds of shops and stores downtown.

I know. It would be really wonderful if some of the locals could try and get some shops in the downtown area. I dont have a clue as to how, but it would be great. I remember when we had the Corner Cafe. That was nice. It does bring the community together. Right now, the downtown just looks shabby.

I guess you would rather see the service station downtown an empty ruin. It is a place built for working on cars! If you don't like it why don't you buy it and try to get something that is suitable to you to rent the building from you?

The problem is that the people here do not patronize our local businesses enough. They would rather drive all the way to Dublin or Vidalia. I agree we do need some businesses here that bring up the value of our town, but there are those in power that do not want our town to prosper.

Nothing against the service station in the middle of town, but that is not a very appealing sight for visitors coming through town. Our downtown area would look nice if some of the property owners would spend some money (there are probably grants available for such) and fix things up in their run-down properties. There are several business owners who work hard to keep their places looking nice, and its unfair to them that the others don't keep up their places as well. As the previous poster stated, Soperton has lots of potential now and in the future.

I agree with soperton joe. Sometimes we have to invest in the exterior of the stores and buildings. It does make a difference. I had a few friends from out of town come thru and they mentioned how run down the town looks. It really is embarrassing because I know we can look and do better! We can. A few flowers here - paint - etc. Come on. It doesnt take all that much money. But it does take caring.

Thank you, fact man! Well said! With Range Fuels investing money and time here, the community needs to put forth some effort to make things better. When this plant gets going, there is probably going to be lots of publicity. Do we really want people to see Soperton/Treutlen County on the news as a run-down place?

The Home Town Holidays event coming up in early December will give everyone a chance to get out and visit our merchants and thank them for the efforts they put forth, and hopefully, inspire some property owners to do better!

You are so right.. Arts and crafts are coming up. And out of towners do notice. I know some of the politicians turn a blind eye to it, but it is noticed by others.. Most of the small towns in rural ga look pretty good - just not us! If anyone thinks we look great - I want to hear about it! I sure dont see it.

If you want to see what a run down downtown looks like go to the old downtown area of Unadilla, Ga sometime. Kinda sad to see those old building just kinda falling in except for the brick.

ALSO, INITIATE THE HELP OF THE HISTORCAL SOCIETY.

The fact is the City council and Mayor need to get off the butts and pass some city ordinances to keep the downtown clean and make the store owners keep up their buildings or pay a fine. To Heck with Politics - do your dang job - thats why we voted you into office. Make the Ellingtons, Sumners etc, to either clean up their buildings or be fined. Grow some - why don't you.

I think most of this "bashing" of the other buildings (Petersons/Morings) is Royce Fowler trying to find another trick up his sleeve to buy a building cheap. What's he gonna do with them, turn them into a juke joint and dope drop off like the old Baker station that he owns and the new night club he has let in our town! Please don't anyone else sell him a building up there....he's done enough damage already!!!!

If you will look at what Royce has bought he has renovated all of it,that more than I can say for most.I am sure if there was a drug problem at this place Sheriffs dept is on top of it.If you can buy something cheap buy it,that is how Gillis bought most of their land.

Daily Horoscope for December 20

Gemini

Grit your teeth as Mars turns retrograde, as things annoyingly don't go to plan. Certain people are going out of their way to be difficult. Is an older relative throwing the proverbial weight around and telling you what to do? The greater the gap between your ages or social status, the more irritated you'll be.
