Home Depot: No more Floor Store

Good enough!!! They did a HORRIBLE job on my flooring installation and then, did not want to make it right. Seems everyone is finally finding out about the failings of this company; it sure did take long enough. If Home Depot is the only place that sells something, then I don't need it. Will NEVER do any business with them again. HvPP

Sorry you got stuck with a bad installation but HD uses outside contractors, and not anyone they list as HD employees.

The fact that HD uses outside contractors is not an excuse. I work for them in their call center and customers are always given the impression that HD is giving that contractor validation.(If the customer is even informed that there will be an outside contractor.) Also, we were to tell the customer that there work was covered for one year under warranty and if anything was wrong with the job, it would be taken cared of. Little did we know that HD covered their butt so good that it was rare that they would have to take a lost. More often it fell on the contractor, and trust me they fought taking a lost, too. Both of you are true and false in your answers... HD usually uses outside installers, however, many installers are becoming companies that HD owns. So they have a vested interest in HD succeeding as well. Secondly, my store routinely takes the hit if we screw up an install. So don't try to say it's HD bailing on anyone. It's all about your store management teams approach to "doing the right thing". It rarely "falls" onto the contractor, especially if they did nothing wrong.

The call center in general did a Horrible job. I have worked for Home Depot for three years, and it was not for this past year when we added the call center that sales for Home Depot went horribly down hill. And it is true that most Home Depot's do subcontract their contractors, and yes the customer is told that. Not only is the customer told that it is subcontracted, but that the install is gaureented for a year. Every store I have been in, if an install were to have gone wrong on Home Depots end, they will take the blow. But either way they will take care of the customer. I think the company that exists now is still trying to recover from this horrible mistake of hiring a "Call Center"

EVery Flooring contractor uses subcontractor's for residential work. It is industry standard.
Even the best installers in the world have bad days sometimes and do a bad job. Don't blame HomeDepot because one install went bad. Sorry happened to be yours but you rolled the dice and sometimes you lose. EVERYTHING is a gamble no matter what company you go with.

I work at home depot and i will never shop there or even work there again they are indeed total rip off artisis.The management also really doesnt care,even about there employees that complain about not enough staff and no help for new staff.
Trust me shop at lowes,rona,or if your in canada...Canadian tire.

the call-center (or customer contact center) couldn't be too bad of an idea. the tampa, san diego, chicago, and dallas ccc's have been in business for years and are flourishing. addsion ccc was doomed from the day it opened in march 06. too many mistakes, not enough taking responsiblity for those mistakes, and putting money behind ideas that just won't work. i've done both the ccc and the stores and they could both stand to improve their customer service levels.

I worked in HD flooring for 6 years. Things for the most part went well except for corp. cutting hours. Yes any retailer selling flooring uses independent subs & yes it's always a risk wherever you go but the big difference w/HD is that they preffer to use installation companies (the bigger the better). This clears them of many liabilities eliminates wharehousing issues but creates even more problems. Companies such as Cooper Flooring pull into town & they end up hiring the installer's in whatever town there in that have been run out of every other store. My advice would be to make sure that whatever store you go to 1st make sure that they use independent subs. Check to see if their insured then ask for references & that smaller retailers tend to provide better CS.

im a great installer from louisville hd uses a big install company here .and they hire other contractors to do the work for half of what hd pays . i loved working for hd when they used us as contractors on or own .its what i do for a living your jobs are importatnt to me and a great install gets me more work .so i think they need to go back to hiring you for vyour skills not how many crews yoy have . i personally install your floor with my crew of two or three and i dont leave the job site . tim

I can tell you that Cooper and other HD providers do not pick the bottom of the barrel. Their installers AND each helper must past a strict background check before being allowed to start working for them. Legal US working with a clean background. The people coming into your home are good guys and this is added protection. I can tell you many of the others don’t do this check and I have turned many away... even if they are good installers with great referenced.. criminal history is not good.

It boggles my mind that they wouldn't keep the call center. It seems like a big part of their customer service just went out the window with the floor department leaving. I know that you could also find a good flooring contractor through their resources too.
