Lutherans move toward more open view on gays

Full story: The State

Leaders of the country's largest Lutheran denomination have agreed to disagree on homosexuality, endorsing an official statement on human sexuality that says there's room in the church for differing views on an issue that's divided other religious groups.

I've been watching and listening to the Lutheran Churchwide Assembly EVERY DAY. I runs from August 17, 2009 thru August 23, 2009.

They have voted on MANY things the past few days and on Friday, they will vote on whether to allow openly gay pastors. An attempt was made to require that this proposal must be approved by a minimum 2/3 vote to be approved, but that motion was soundly defeated. So it will take a simple majority (50%+ a single vote) minimum to approve this.

I am cautiously optimistic that they will vote to approve gay clergy.

We shall see later on 2day when the vote is taken.......

You can watch the proceedings live at:

I was raised Missouri Synood the first 11 years of my life, went to a GREAT Lutheran elementary school for 5 years, then my family moved and I wen to ALC which later became ELCA.

But I left the Lutheran Church after more than 40 years because of their stand on gay issues and their seemingly interminable discussions about gay issues.

I joined the Christian denomination called The United Church Of Christ. They settled these issues long ago.

ELCA will vote later on 2day on whether to allow a gay clergy. Approval requires a simple majority vote.

I hope they vote to allow a gay clergy.

But whatever the outcome of the vote, I could never go back to the Lutheran Church.

I have been away from the Lutheran Church for about the same length of time. Like you I won't go back, but I'm glad to see they are seeing things with out a lot of bias.

The vote to allow a gay clergy should happen within the hour.

As a repentant sinner I hope they vote to defeat. Filthy unrepentant sinners who call themselves clergy should not be aloowed to lead a flock.

Gay is not an issue. It's a sin. Church bodies cannot "settle" sin. Only God can do that.

A church body who fools itself into beliing it has "settled" a sin issue is just fooling itself.

To each his own. I say the ELCA writes each adult member and asks them to vote yes or no to one simple question. Is it ok for your pastor to put his W I E N E R in another man's B U N?

And you know, there will be some folks who are secure enough in themselves and their beliefs that having a gay pastor will not cause them any problems.

It sounds like you have a real sexual hangup.

It's not a question of having a hang up. One person having sex with another person of the same gender is sin. One of those people calling themself a pastor is a sin. It's a sin problem.

Its only a sin if its rape. Sorry I don't hold with your version of what is sin and what isn't. When I was in the ALC Lutheran Church nothing was said about being gay at all. From all the folks I have talked with and all the reading I have done, the book bible is the most re-written book in history, it gets updated to suit the powers that be (ie King James et al)so they can control their followers.

You never did tell me at what age you made the conscious choice to be straight.

Rom. 1:24, 26-27
Therefore God gave them over in the sinful desires of their hearts to sexual impurity for the degrading of their bodies with one another....Even their women exchanged natural relations for unnatural ones. In the same way the men also abandoned natural relations with women and were inflamed with lust for one another. Men committed indecent acts with other men, and receive din themselves the due penalty for their perversion.

1 Cor. 6:9110
Do you not know that the wicked will not inherit the Kingdon of God? Do not be decieved. Neither the sexually immoral nor adulterers nor make prostitutes nor homosexual offenders nor thieves nor the greedy nor drunkards nor slandereds nor swindlers will inherit the kingdom of God.

OK, but you know I don't remember seeing that when I was in my teens and I haven't been a Lutheran since then.
Your version of religion and my spiritual path do not agree and I will leave it at that.
