First. most Christians that agree that same gender sexual intercourse is a sin, do not believe that same gender sexual attraction, by itself, is a sin. It is the act of same gender sex that is a sin. That the ELCA "agrees to disagree" about this issue illustrates the fuzzy thinking that is so prevalent in that organization. Both the Old Testament and the New Testament say that for a man to lie with a man or for a woman to lie with a woman is a sin. The scripture either means what it says or it doesn't. It is impossible for the scripture to mean 2 opposing things at the same time. In psychology, to believe 2 opposing things at the same time is called "cognitive dissonance" and it is impossible for a person to do. This idea of, "we will agree to disagree", is also an example of the policy that they don't want to offend anyone and do not care about the truth. Behind that philosophy is, "We want as many people in the church on Sunday as we can get. That way the offering plates will contain as much money as possible.

Hmm, a tornado drops down out of nowhere and hits a Lutheran church and convention center where Lutheran's acknowledged same sex relationships, disregarding the Bible. Act of God???

Act of God??? It does make one pause to think. The pictures in the Star Tribune's photo gallery show the cross on the damaged steeple hanging upside down. http://www.startribune.com/galleries/53727487... [from the Star Tribune article] "Nearby, the storms damaged an old copper spiral [with a cross at the top] atop Central Lutheran Church in downtown Minneapolis, causing it to dangle from the building. "Joe Bjordal, a spokesman for Central Lutheran, said he wasn't sure how much it would cost to repair the spiral. "Central Lutheran was built in 1929, and to Bjordal's knowledge, it has never before been hit by such a powerful storm."

Albert, that was well written and right to the point. It was brought up in our Sunday message that churches were losing a lot of people and the ELCA was at or near the top of the list. Do you think that this might be due to the issue at hand? If this is passed, count me as one that has left.

How is the church going to help people who perform homosexual acts if they don't address the sins directly and confidently from both the pulpit and in it's writings? There will be judgement on those who were too cowardly to stand up for God's word and scripture and let these poor people continue on their perverted paths hurting families, communities and children.

T-Bone--"How is the church going to help people who perform homosexual acts if they don't address the sins directly and confidently from both the pulpit and in it's writings?" Because "homosexual acts" are NOT a sin. The church's homophobia and hate are sin, and have caused tremendous suffering and destroyed a lot of lives, while driving thousands away from the church and the love of God. This is a move towards finally acting as Christ intended and following our Lord in his command to treat others with love and kindness. When Jesus said "Love your neighbor" he means gay people, too. "There will be judgement on those who were too cowardly to stand up for God's word and scripture" They ARE, and there's nothing remotely brave about homophobia and bigotry, nothing at all. "and let these poor people continue on their perverted paths" Perverted? Sheesh, your hate and bigotry is not REMOTELY Christian, nor remotely accurate. Being gay is NOT a perversion, and EVERY ONE of them will continue being gay no matter HOW much hate you "preach", because sexual orientation cannot change. There is no such thing as a former homosexual. "hurting families, communities and children." Sick lie. It's your bigotry and hate that is hurting families, communities and children, not homosexuality. This decision will help HEAL families, communities, and children.

If God calls someone to the ministry who is gay, you want them rejected by man or you'll leave the church? Why are you in church and not at a KKK meeting in the first place if hating people is more important than love and forgiveness?

No problem - repent and stop sinning, and you will be forgiven. YES, sexual deviancy is a sin! Your lies won't change that.

If you look at membership statistics for all major churches, all denominations are in decline that are fuzzy on the Bible's repeated commands against all homosexual acts. With one exception, all the strongly support the Biblical view are growing. The one exception is the LCMS, which has splintered over other issues.

I was born and raised a Lutheran for more than 40 years and i KNOW homsexualization when I see it ! And it's ABOUT TIME ! I left the church after more than 40 years because of their stand on gay issues. Despite the fact that our pastor was a very nice lesbian lady who everyobody loved. Everybody knew she was gay. Nobody cared (Well, a few cared). So I hope that tomorrow they vote to allow gay clergy and a gay laity so FULLHOMOSEXULAIZATION may finally be achieved ! :) Now my sister is getting married n 2 months in a Methodist church. THAT'S our next target ! The Methodists are very antagonistic to gay people. Once they see that the Lutheran Church has been fully hmosexualized, they will realize that resistance is futile and will give up. :) If not, we shall have to use the "Stealth Plan" to infiltrate the Methodists to fully homosexualize them later. It's a slower method, but the outcome is far more certain. As we always like to say: HOMOSEXUALIZING AMERICA ONE CHURCH AT A TIME ! "THE PLAN" is working ! :) PEACE ! :)

Gay Mom wrote: Love thy neighbor as thyself, this is the second great commandment. Jesus did not say YOU get to choose who will be your neighbor. And the first great commandment is "Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind." As Lutheran we believe that no person can keep any or all commandments perfectly, except Jesus Christ. All those who have faith in Him by the power of His Spirit willingly strive to keep His commandments. I may become so angry that I want to murder someone, but I resist. I may become to greedy that I may want to steal something, but I resist. I may see lying or cheating as a way out of a situation, but I resist. I may be filled with lust and desire for someone other than my spouse, but I resist. You see, a sin is a sin. If I deny that murder, theft, lying or sexual immorality are sins, then I deny God's sovereignty and His authority (thereby breaking the commandment). God requires that we fear, love and trust Him above all things. Above even our vain desires. He also knows it is impossible for us do so, and so sent His Son to be our Savior.
