Debate centers on the elimination of chocolate milk

Full story: Berkshire Eagle

Chocolate milk stirred up a great debate last week. Across the country, parents, milk processing plants, health experts and schools have been arguing about the benefits of the beverage after the dairy industry launched its "Raise Your Hand for Chocolate Milk" campaign.

How about soy milk? No
cholesteral or saturated fat. It's the best chocolate milk I've ever had.

Here come the Food Nazi's again. You worry about your kids, I'll worry about mine. It's been that way for thousands of years. I think we'll be just fine.

Why isn't water included in the choices at no extra charge? It is certainly less expensive than milk.
That makes absolutely no sense whatsoever.

How about just a small glass of beer or wine with lunch, it would give our schools that international flair and things would most likely be a little calmer after lunch. Maybe it would also help with the dropout rate and daily attendance.I am drawing the line and saying no to hard liquor except in grades 11 and 12.If we did this I bet we would not have to worry at all about the students at Pittsfield High leaving campus at lunch time.Problem solved!

Gee, I can't wait until the Food Nazis (lol) decide to come into our homes and tell us what we can and can't feed our kids! I'm so glad they're there to be parents to our kids when it's obvious we can't! Idiots.

A Bloody Mary or a Mamossa - this way the kiddies get their vegetable serving. Cafeteria food is NOT the reason for childhood obesity - they need to get away from the computer games/tv. The parents (not the schools nor the government) need to feed their children properly.

All of the chocolate milk that is being brought into schools has only 1/2% milkfat. It is nearly skim.

My daughter does not like milk, so it is hard to get enough into her each day. She does not mind chocolate milk as much, so one of her milk servings each day is chocolate milk at lunch.
I would rather have her drink cold chocolate milk each day with a lunch I send from home than send her a juice box every day, and further cut her milk consumption. At least with the chocolate milk I know she is at least having a serving at lunch daily and we try to get the rest in before the end of the day. Leave the chocolate, at least kids are drinking some milk.

Video Games don't make kids FAT.(They can't EAT while playing, see.) Parents make choices for kids at an early age-variety, balance, etc. That's how the ball gets rolling. Take too much away from them NOW, and when they ARE able to make their own choices, they will ravish the stuff they were "forbid" as children

At the very least they could offer free cups and Ice and a tap so students could get free tap water with their meal. Also... nobody who is overweight got that way from drinking 8 ounces of chocolate milk a day. It comes from the taco's, Tater Tots, hod dogs, hamburgers, pizza... it goes on. This stuff is ok once or twice a week, but every day especially with cuts in P.E. is where the problems are coming from. It's not the schools fault, they only have the money to buy what thay are now serving. The whole school lunch program needs to be re-tooled. If you can afford to send a healthy lunch to school with your kids everyday I suggest that. I can't, so I send my kids outside to run around every day after school for a couple of hours and they are healthy. But I do understand that many parents don't have that option.

Not sure, but I think it is much more expensive, and difficult to get in that kind of quantity.

Video games don't make kids fat, it's the doing nothing but sitting on their butts playing them that does it! Parent need to get their kids outside playing and exercising more often!

Daily Horoscope for December 9

Scorpio

If something is bothering you, it's important that you say so now, loudly and clearly. It's no good bottling things up any longer because that will only lead to resentment and a slow-burning anger. However, it's important that you know when to shut up too, otherwise you might overstate your case or sound so demanding that you turn others against you.
