This has noting to do with the city administration. It only makes sense, logistically, to have all under one roof. This plan has been discussed since Crane bought the Beloit facility in the mid 90s.

Barrett or Alcombright are not relevant to this change.

Hey Dan, remember that economic stimulus bill you and the corrupt DiMasi got enacted into law? The bill that passed after thousands of dollars in campaign contributions went from big biz and their lobbyists to you and DiMasi? Well, how come with all the alleged economic stimulus you've been doing at the state level, you couldn't keep Crane in North Adams? Oh, they didn;t contribute to you? Why should they? Since you were head of the House Economic Development Committee, Massachusetts' economy has tanked, companies have left the state, jobs have been lost, but you're still being wined and dined on Beacon Hill by your lobbyist friends. It's a wonder you have the gall to even show your face in North Adams!

I came to see the Barrett droolers try to blame a decision made by Crane months and month ago on the city voters for electing Alcombright.... and was not disappointed...

Do you really think that Crane is moving just because JBIII was not re-elected?

thats a complete crock this is simply Crane's way of closing the plant with out actually closing the plant. they have been planning on closing it for a while now and its just another step in that direction when logically it would have made for more sense to move the dalton branch to NA and turn the Dalton building into condos. Where as selling the crane building in NA is not gonna happen....look at the other abandoned buildings on the same street & those have been for sale for years!!!

I supported the Mayor, and any claim that this move has anything to do at all with this year's election is just plain stupid. The executives at Crane didn't get together on Wednesday and decide because either Dick won or John lost that they would move. This was a corporate decision that's been in the works for a long time. The silver lining to this is the jobs are not being "lost." They are being moved to another location in the county. It's sad to lose the tax money for North Adams, but I'm happy to see these people still have employment.

you are right & wrong.
right it has nothing to do with who is mayor the author of the article just put that in there cause they are trying to make u think that when in reality Crane is commonly known to make the wrong decision every chance it gets. If its a good idea to do something they do the exact opposite. It would make sense to put it all under the NA roof as reselling that building will be impossible. Where as the dalton building could be converted into like condos or apartments and sell for bucko bucks. but hey why would crane want to MAKE $$??!?>!?!?!

The Transcript could NOT get a comment from Mayor-elect Alcombright. Is that a sign of things to come? I hope he didnt withold comment pending consultation with the cops, firemen and teachers?

Perhaps his job made it difficult to find home -- at what I am sure was the last minute before press.

Look around, the problem isn't Dick or JBIII, the problem is a man named Barack HUSSEIN and another man named Duval Patrick. The country has become a socialist utopia under Barry O and now the Mass has gone back to a full one party system, a party of tax and spend anti-business, big government loving democrats nothing will get better.

Things won't start getting better until 2011 after we throw out the liberal bums in DC and after 2012 when we get rid of the radical Muslim communist in the White House. Until then, enjoy 15-20% unemployment while the Dems will keep blaming Bush.

So, the US has become a liberal socialist utopia in the last 10 months? Get back under your bridge, troll. No one is buying what you're selling...

The problem is that Crane is Dalton-based. It owes North Adams nothing. It's the problem we have with most employers up here. Sprague booked ultimately landing in Israel. Where'd CommSprague go? Mexico?

I don't blame JB3 or Alcombright. I blame the owners and shareholders of companies because they really don't care about the communities that helped them grow.

I am happy that people won't lose their jobs. Really, that's important too.

To even think that Crane moving is due to the local election just goes to show that mill rat mentality is alive and strong in north county.

Daily Horoscope for December 27

Scorpio

If you haven't seen certain people during the past few days, how about inviting them over for a drink or a meal? You're feeling sociable and will enjoy doing some light entertaining although you'll draw the line at anything too strenuous. It's a lovely day for being in familiar surroundings with some familiar faces, even if all you do is flop on the sofa.
