Adak is a great place to live "IF" you could get a group of people who know how to run a business. The Navy always messed things up while I lived there (1965-1975, 1980-1981) I knew that if the Aleut Corp. got control of the island the town would fail.
I wanted to move back to Adak in 1999/2000 but was told I could not unless I gave a big paymet to the Aleut Corp. and then had a bunch to spend there. And then to rent a house the rates where shall we say beyond greed!! I would still love to live out at Adak and work there, but only if it does not cost me more than I could make. Empty houses means no $$ for the Aleut Corp., drop the rates people!! If you make it affordable to live there people will come. If I could buy a house there or even some bare land I would. Adak is and always be my hometown, just wish I could move back. |
