What a horrible wreck. That's right "wreck". Do not call something like this, as well as most car wrecks, accidents. This was not an accident. Whomever is responsible for these homicides should be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law. Sitting in your car at a stop light, on a windy day, and have a tree land on it now that's an accident. This is a wreck (or collision, you choose the word) but not an accident. In addition it is a CRIME.

Street racing is really stupid, not only do you endanger your own life but other people too. If you want to race, race at one of the drag strips.(Capital, Hagerstown, and MIR) Racing is great and fun to watch if it's done in a right way.

I live in Accokeek near the area where the drag-racing tradegy occured early this morning. People frequently drag race along that stretch of 210 and I have called to alert the police of this practice on several occasions so it disturbed me to hear the PG County Officer on News4 say that drag-racing is not a problem in the area. Unfortunately the police do not take this type of problem serious until fatalities occur. These people drag race several days a week creating a dangerous situation and noise-nusance for hard-working people in the area who simply want a safe quiet place to live. Hopefully the police will be more vigilant and implement strategies to eradicate this problem. If not, I fear more fatalities for innocent people as the weather gets warmer.

I woke up to this story on Channel 4. I heard a woman who was there with her 61 year old father - at 3:40am - say they were watching the "race" in which her father was subsequently killed. This indicates an obviously a lack of logic and common sense - which cost this man his life - on both their parts. Also, surely the police knew that this area was popular for these kinds of races. Shouldn't they have been out there on a Friday night ensuring the safety of the idiot rookie racers AND the folks just trying to get home?

How incredibly ironic, or natures charming brand of whimsy, that there is a car insurance ad at the bottom of this story. I have friends in the area of the accident and though I no longer live in the DC Metro area, I am not even a little surprised by this tragic accident

THERE 5 DARK CARS PARKED ALONG SIDE OF 210, RIGHT ACROSS FROM THE YMCA SHOPPING CENTER AND IT SEEMED LIKE THEY WERE TRANSFERING SOMETHING FROM 2 OR THREE OF THE CARS . FROM THE TRUNK OF THEM TO THE TRUNKS OF THE OTHER CARS SITTING WITH THEM. THEY WERE FACING COMING BACK UP FROM 210 AS IF THEY COULD HAVE BEEN COMING FROIM THAT AREA. THIS WAS ABOUT 2:35 OR 2:40 SATURDAY MORNING. I PRAY WHATEVER THOSE YOUNG MEN WERE DOING THEY HAD NO INVOLVEMENT WITH THAT DRAG RACE! GOD WHAT ARE THESE YOUNG PEOPLE THINKING ABOUT? THEY GO FROM ONE EXTREME TO ANOTHER. WE SEE THEM RACING EVER MORNING ABOUT THIS TIME BACK UP 210. WHERE THE HELL IS THE POLICEMEN AT! BUT HEY, CHECK THIS OUT, ON WEDNESDAY MORNING BEFORE THE THEY CAME RACING BACK UP FROM ACCOKK., MD., THE YOUNG FOLKS I PERSUME, THE POLICE HAD THE GAWL TO ASK US HARD WORKING FOLKS WHAT WAS WE DOING OUT IN THE SHOPPING CENTER THAT TIME OF MORNING? EVERYONE KNOWS THE WASHINGTON POST DELIVERS ARE OUT THERE! DUHHHHHHH! IT DOESN'T TAKE A GENIUS! MAY THE LORD HAVE MERCY ON THE DECEASED SOULS AND GOD HAVE MERCY FOR THESE YOUNG DUMMIES WHO COMMITED THIS HENIUS CRIME!!!

This is right near my house. I live in the Summerwood development. They drag race at night and race motorcycles in the day. The county is short of money to pay police officers overtime because of the lack of property taxes being collected. My recommendation is to install speed camera's like they have in DC. That would create a boatload of revenue because lord knows no one does the speed limit on Indian Head Hwy......including myself.

Everyone who lives around this area knew it was going to happen one day. Its something that could have been prevented. Now hopefully the police will do something about the street racing that happens here almost every weekend.

On the phone with a client who races out there. Police are in possession of a video camera that caught the accident on tape. I need to be a reporter.

This is worse than the gun shooting at NIU that killed 5 people but it's not getting even 1/10th the media coverage. Fact is highways speeders are killers and the biggest crime problem we have in america, but highway crashes are big business to the auto industry and they pay the media to minimize the huge problem.

This tragedy is something that could have been prevented. I lived in that area until 3 years ago, but I continue to work there. Even during the middle of the day, you have to be a NASCAR driver to not get run over. More of a police presence is needed! I'm tired of being passed by motorcycles going in speeds of excess of 100mph and nothing being done about it because the cops can't catch them. Also, what are these parents thinking taking their kids to something like this? Teach your kids to be responsible citizens and not people that participate in illegal activity.

Someone suggests this is worse than the NIU shootings? Are you for real?

This is a bunch of moronic people who are watching something illegal. They, unlike the victims of the NIU shootings, put themselves in harms way by watching it. A woman with her FATHER and CHILD watching it at 4 a.m.? No one deserves to die or be injured in this way. But these people put themselves in a dangerous situation.

Comparing it to the NIU shootings, or suggesting the auto industry is paying media to 'hide' these types of incidents is ludicrous. Did Ford recall their vehicles because of illegal drag racing or something? No. This is no one's fault but the people involved -- ALL of the people, including the spectators encouraging the behavior. And there's going to be all sorts of road side memorials, etc. for 'victims' who knew they were in the wrong place at the right time.

I live in the neighborhood right near where this accident took place. When I came home last night, I saw over 200 cars parked in an empty parking lot with their lights off near my neighborhood. Every weekend we see cars parked outside of our neighborhood and racing up and down 210 highway; in the morning you see tire marks all over the road. The police should know that this is occuring, especially since people in the neighborhood have complained about it. This is a sad situation. Maybe it takes an incedent like this to finally get the police around here patrolling in this African American community, and idiots to stop street racing as if this is "The Fast and the Furious"
